Lets see those deadeyes out there. :)
I'll start. :)
I ran about 100 pellets through my Walther this afternoon. I'm still getting used to this gun, but my shooting is improving.
Each mag holds eight shots, so I used one mag per target and got through 12 or so targets and a couple of CO2 powerlets.
These are about the best of my afternoon. For some reason, I always seem to get at least one flyer per mag - though it's my shooting, not the gun. I usually get the flyer just when I think I'm going to get a nice group. I panic a bit and snatch a shot.
Anyway, here's my best today. They were shot at 6.5 metres, freestyle standing. By that I mean using two hands, no rests or anything and standing up.

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/walther/targets/target0002.jpg
The next one is my best target of the day. Aside from one flyer in the 6 ring, all the other 7 shots were inside the 9 ring and check out that bull. :)
http://www.britishblades.com/pics/walther/targets/target0003.jpg
(the observant among you will notice the target doesnt look quite the same as the one in the first post, that's cos these were an earlier version. I had a load of em printed off so I reakon I'd use em up. They are exactly the same scale as the targets in the first post though.)

I'd love to play but have nowhere to shoot and no scanner :( my back garden is big enough for a short range but I wont shoot there for fear of upsetting my neighbours who have enough to put up with from my forging!
Oh, go on, go for it in yer garden.
A cautionary note. I just decided to measure out accurately my pistol range (backstop to footplate) and I've been shooting from 7.4 metres.
So, dont guess it, measure it. ;)

50 rounds through a .45 semi auto, range varies from 15m down to 5m, emptying the clip as quickly as I could pull the trigger as it was probably the one and only time I'll ever get to shoot one of those scary beasts :D

How about a thread for airifles too? I would have thought that more people would own rifles. Well, I do anyway :)
Or should we just post rifle target pictures here?

I was grinning from ear to ear :D
SWMBO was going to have a go but changed her mind after I'd fired the first one and ran off to somewhere quieter ;)
I wonder if we could arrange a target shooting meet up for air rifles/pistols? I rarely get to use mine but it would be cool to have a small informal gathering outside of the usual FT clubs. I guess finding land and liability might be an issue though.

Hell, why not - if .45 ACP gets a look in, why not rifles too.
Though I think with modern PCP's and a good scope, all we'll be seeing is a single raggy hole at anything less than 30 yards. The thing with these plinking pistols, they are so much fun because they actually put the skill back into it. It's actually quite hard to get groups under 2" at 6.5 meters.
Even though there may be more rifles than pistols, I doubt many have the ground to just pop outside and shoot 30 shots at 50 yards.

I think you're right Bob. I'm probably getting a bit to intense about it. I'm trying to squeze em off about half way through expiration, but if i miss my timing I find myself holding my breath a bit, then things get shaky.
Any tips?

Perhaps you should set up a CQB range all throughout your house, with spring loaded targets operated by trip wires, and all in total darkness of course :D

Any tips?
Find out your natural breathing cycle & practice minuimizing your movement, then find your timing (how long ittakes to get to your optimum movement)
THEN work on your break (should take you by surprise) & practice getting the break just before your optimum movement timing (this may take up to 15 seconds (but any longer & your muscles will take over so rest then ry again) & you'll settle into a natural breathing rythm (forget about your breathing at first (but try practicing a "belly" breath rather than a western "macho, big chest breath" as this will make your upper body movement all but uncontrollable) & you'll soon settle into it;)

Scanner bust but my CO2 Berreta just landed one on the bull, 4 more in the ten, 2 close together (high but straight) in the 6 and one way off right in the 5. All to do with my crap shooting skills, nothing wrong with the pistol!

Managed a bit better today, particulary as my PC decided it was to easy and printed it at 70% of actual size.
1 Bull
3 10s
2 high but straight in the 8
1 high straight 6
1 6 at 3 oclock
So discounting the 10s I'm either shooting high or right based on my best 2 cards of yesterday an today. Any particular cause of that beyond pants shooting by me?

Sounds like you're doing much better than me. I could be wrong on the cause thing, I havent worked em all through yet, but could one possible be that you might be squeezing the grip too hard with your thumb at the trigger break? I cant remember if that causes high/right or high/left though.

Excellent site, now bookmarked, thanks.
Getting better, all inside the 8 an all bar 1 or 2 inside the 9 tonight. Only 7 holes in the paper but the flat head pelets are tearing it a bit so one of the shots went through an existing hole, I'd like it to be the bull but honestly no idea as I only looked closely at the end of the mag. Any idea how to score that folks?
A faily even spread round the bull, with one or two in it, so I guess the residual error is a measure of my accuracy
And all my toys too :(

"...the Anti-Social Behaviour Act would become effective on the 20th January 2004 and that its immediate impact would be the 'banning' of the air cartridge pistols. (In fact, the air cartridge system will also be banned and so this affects rifles using this system as well as pistols but I do not yet know what arrangements will be made for such rifles.)
The pistols (of the Brocock type), will be reclassified as Section 5 firearms under the Principal Firearms Act and will therefore be effectively banned.
Those who already possess such pistols will be 'allowed' to keep them provided that they apply for, and are granted, a Firearm Certificate (i.e. As an 'exception' the Section 5 pistols can be kept under Section 1 on a Firearm Certificate.) by their local police. We have been led to believe that there will be no need to satisfy the 'Good Reason' requirement that normally applies to Section 1 firearms but that the other requirements: i.e. the applicant must be a 'fit person to possess firearms without danger to the public or the peace' and that he or she must 'not be prohibited by law from possessing firearms' will apply. We understand that the usual Section 1 security conditions - provision for safe storage of the pistols - will also apply but this is not yet clear. This could make ownership of these pistols quite an expensive option.
The Home Office emphasised that owners of these pistols must be aware that certain firearms offences (e.g. having one of these in a public place without the appropriate authority) would attract a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 5 years on conviction. They also stated that they did not wish to see anyone caught by this legal provision for possession of these pistols and urged that each current owner either dispose of his pistols legitimately or obtain a Firearm Certificate for them."

Thanks mirage, I was just going to say, dont brococks need a FAC?
wdboss, I hope you know you are in posession of a full Section 5 firearm and have all the appropriate paperwork. If not, you could most definitely find yourself on holiday, courtesy of HM Queen and calling a man named Bubba your girlfriend.
Posession of a Brocock (or any other firearm) without a FAC is a phenominally serious offence that I doubt would avoid a custodial sentance. In fact I think it's a mandatory 5 years.
I dont know how the police view people who might have brococks and may be unaware of the change in law surrounding their ownership, but if you dont have a FAC, I suggest you find out how to hand it in ...PDQ.
yeah brococks have 1 of the best air systems, had to get my fac to hold on to mine seems daft for an air pistol, mind it did enable me to get my rimfire when i got my ticket :) il post some shooting pics up when ive found wat i did with the pellets for it, for any one out there that has a brocock and dosnt have it on a fac i would advise you apply for 1 asap becuase with all the advatising surrounding them you wont be able to say you didnt hear of the changes to the law. plus if any 1 has some .177 cartiriges for a good price drop me a PM

I had read somewhere that something like 70,000 brococks were sold in the UK, with currently less than 10% of that number being registered.
Hmmm, tempting to get some toys out.

I guess I can be okay, from 100 metres. Those aren't air-pistol or BB holes, as I'm sure you've guessed. In fact, there were 5 from .303s, 10 from 7.62 long and 20 from .22 rimfire. That was my warm up for the day, from 100 metres.
Rest of the set is here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/rikrose/sets/72157594357773173/).
Not my guns, I should mention. I went shooting last year, and three years before that. Before that I had a 10 year break. I could be so much better if I got to practice more than once every 3 years.

When I got my BSA Meteor S (many years ago now), it had a poor 4x20 scope. Well, that gave up quite quickly, and the open sights had been removed. Being a cash poor teenager, I carried on shotgun style. I was encouraged by reading an article in Ag or AGW about how American troops were taught instinctive shooting in WW2 using BB guns without sights.
So, what I learned was that with Bulldog pellets I certainly didn't need sights over Meteor ranges! :D
Shooting with the venture scouts one weekend, none of them believed that it was me who'd shot the first match we'd stuck in the ground about 10m away. So I made everyone else stop shooting while I cleared the other 9 in 9 shots!
I never did shoot anything live like that though. Although I was confident of my accuracy, I felt that I couldn't guarantee a clean kill.
I really need to go get my air guns out again! :C

I remember that article, "top shots could shoot a BB thrown in the air" :O
I bought a BB gun, pulled the sights and started shooting at ivy leaves in the back garden, then moved onto the wasps that landed on them.
It took a lot of shooting but at close ranges the BB gun was bloody amazingly accurate and a great way to practice snap shooting.

I don't think that you can apply for an FAC for a Brocock now If I recall correctly there was a time limit on applications (April 04 springs to mind).
I know I had to rush my application thro' before I went into hospital for my stem cell transplant in Feb 04.

If you get tired of punchin paper get some shatterblast targets they are clay pigeon type targets for BB guns. If you have a six or eight shooter you shoot for speed and accuracy. Makes great practice for IPSC IDPA, or cowboy action. And for kids its something that breaks its instant gratification for kids like a water bottle full of water and a 22rf. Gus

These were shot on a standard ISSF 10m pistol target at 10m.
Thanks

OK so on seeing this I thought I'd shove this up, its not the official target but I may well have a blast at that tomorrow.

Was ping ponging around on the web, and ran across this thread. The can holder is made from an old coat hanger. Any stiff piece of wire will do.
Bluepeter! thats here i have been going wrong all those years, buying targets!!

Does anyone have (or know where I can download) a file of a fig11 target that I can print out please?

Full size Figure 11 targets are about 100cm x 40cm, is that the size you are looking for. We've still got a few at my rifle club and we may well have some of the miniature one's as well but I can't be certain. PM me.
I've got it in my head that civilian shooting clubs have been banned from shooting at any targets that represent human forms though I can't find the ruling anywhere and it's probably just in competitions because we still shoot at Figure 11's and 12's on military ranges. Can anybody verify this.

I got a bit bored of the usual bunny and bird targets so I did some Photoshop magic....
I wanted to try and replicate something like this, (http://i.ebayimg.com/23/!CFYV8oQBGk~$(KGrHqMOKpIE0U64y,NrBNU5pKRl9Q~~_1.JP G)
Click for full size image, download, adjust to the size you want (it's a square image), print some off...and it's Goodbye Kitty!
