I got me goodies :happy15:
O.k, Initial Impression.
Took the dodo out the box.... My god.. what an ugly looking knife.
Then I opened it up... big difference. Fits into my hand almost perfectly and the scales are fairly comfortable, the lock seems very strong too, even if the knife can unfortunitly be flicked open one handed.
Pros:
Good ergodynamics on the grip
scales seem to offer a very grippy surface
very strong lock
aggressive blade shape,
Very open frame, so minimal fluff collection
Ambidextres clip
Cons:
Scales seem to attract dirt like anybodys business, might not be so noticable in black version.
Very bulky in pocket
Ugly as hell
Blade can be flicked open
Blade lock requires (for me) both hands to release
Tip up carry only, not my prefrence, and no way to change it
Best at slashes or draw cuts, not the best blade for piercing.
Early Conclusion?
Nice enough to play with, but not something I would invest in for an EDC even if it were legal.
Spyderco Pacific Salt.
First impressions.
Opened the box, hmm.. very standard looking un opened, but then I opened it and woah, it's a big knife, closed it's very decieving.
I love the shape of the blade and it sits in the hand very comfortably, opening smoothly with a very solid click.
Pros:
Attrractive blade shape
Very solid standed back lock, with the churl cut into it for those of the fat fingers.
No play in the blade what so ever
Claimed to be corrasion free in salt water (untested)
Will not flick open with one hand, no matter how hard I try
Sits comfortably in pocket
Grippy handle
Clip is reverseble for ambidextres carry
Cons:
The actual handle materiel of the knife seems to be very cheap compared to the quality of the rest of the knife and too lightweight.
Again, this is a tip up only carry.
Difficult to open in motorcycle gloves
Profile a little too slim for prolonged use.
Early conclusion?
If it were legal I would be very tempted to buy this for use as an EDC
