Hello everyone,
First chance I've had to write a proper hello.

I'm the executive director of BladeSports International. I'd like to thank Longstrider for his contributions to the sport of cutting and his general professionalism. He is a wonderful representative of this sport and BladeSports UK.

I will be looking foreword to questions about cutting competitions and BladeSports events and policies.

Welcome! I think there are a few folk around here that are keen to get involved in bladesports, and I'm one of them. No idea when I'll be able to actually do something about it though...

Realistically, what would a totally untalented novice (like me) have to spend on a blade to get started?

The only real cost is membership. You'd have to find out from Longstrider about the local cost of membership. In the US it is $40 per year.

A knife can be borrowed ( I regularly loan knives for events), but to buy a knife would cost about $350- the cost of the new Benchmade Competition Cutter. I have seen custom competition knives for as little as $450.

There are usually event fees, at least there are in the US $25. Longstrider would have to speak for the UK.

Sorry about the vagueness.

The biggest cost, to me, is not getting involved. It's a hugely fun sport, even for those who do not win. It's a great bunch of people, you gain huge amounts of practical knife skills and you get to use a big knife in the way it was meant to be used.
