Brass?

I've got a bit of brass in front of me, and I was wondering if there's any simple way to see whether it's really brass or not... Obviously I'm not going to be able to get a 100% result, but maybe there are some properties that I can test? I guess it's pretty soft... :)

There are quite a few different types of brass...
but it should be non-magnetic.
If you know the volume you could check the density.
