I've got a few benchmades for sale, though I'm not sure how to deal with the payment/ shipping thing.
Bagman: you've done it before, how did you work it? oh and check out the mike lamprey thread, I've left you a message there :D

Edited to add: Bagman seeing as the AFCK is left handed and there aren't to many of us about, do you want to swap it for an axis benchmade that might be easier for you to sell? You can tell me to p**s off if you like, but it's an idea.

I guess I caused the confusion there tanto, I saw your post (just) before I had a handshake from Bagman, so thought it was premature to say "sold", my apologies.

That's something you have to work out between buyer/seller to both your satisfaction. For anything of value, I'd recommend a crossed cheque made payable only into a bank account. For smaller value items, you could consider postal orders and such.

Remember, though I'm sure we're all solid gold, private sales always carry a risk to both the seller and purchaser.

I managed to miss two posts here sorry I was out of the office most of yesterday and trying to catch up on my "work" on the forum when I got back :D

Tanto - it was bought from a US dealer - I have not bought any knives in this country for years although I am trying to get some money together to get a Chris Reeve fixed blade from Frank @ Framar (the fixed blade prices are much more resonable in this country than the sebenza ones for some reason???)
You can get mini griptillions form toolshop in germany but they are 99 euros but with free carriage. You should be able to pick one up from the states for 60 -65 dollors ish but then you have the carriage plus possible customes duty. It is all swings and roundabouts.

SMAT - what axis lock did you have in mind to trade the AFCK for???
I have only traded/sold stuff very recently with The General and Martyn here and with savantuk from Bladeforums. In each case both parties have done it on trust woth cash/cheques being sent in the post and kit the other way signed for post type afair.

The easiest ones to sell that I have are:
Benchmade 942 warren osbourne (black handle/blade, part serrated, 1st production No. 712/1000)-GONE
Benchmade 720 Mel pardue (black blade/handle [aluminiun] part serrated ats34) slight marks (not scratches though) on handle and black v.slightly worn off on back corners of blade.
Spyderco gunting (plain edge) never carried/used.-GONE
Spyderco salsa (blue aluminium handle) plain edge, carried/used once (cardboard)-GONE

Some clips have slight scuff marks but nothing serious, I do have more but these are the best.

Just collected the mini-grip from the PO. Ecxellent stuff, the knife was exactly as described Bagmnan, superb condition, excellent - thanks. What a great little lightweight this is, there is no play at all in the blade, very smooth action and what seems to be a very sturdy lock - well, at least i cant budge it with as much force as I feel comfortable applying. This has just become my working EDC. :)

One question, why did you sell it, this is a great little knife (not that I'm complaining :))

Thanks again,
Martyn.

Glad you like it Martyn

I sold it for a couple of reasons:

I was not keen on the non circular opening hole, perhaps I am too used to Spyderco's

to support my Sebenza habit of course :D

I have another on order with CRK that has a unique graphic pattern and two blades, one a little stainless damascus number so I need to save up some dosh for when it ships - alas not for another 5 or six months yet

I thought the same thing myself about the rugby ball hole!

I would have lived with it though! I really liked the look of the Griptillian blades, but the use of FRN is a shame...

Still 440C is a good steel and these knives are good value.

I just deep down dislike Benchmade as a company. Its a LONG story! I won't talk about it unless asked...

 ;)

If they had used G10 and a round hole - go pay Spyderco some more royalties I think it would have been a superb knife. 440c on a blade of that price is really good.

Lie down on the couch and tell me all about your hatred of BM :D
It is good to talk :D

If you dont want to post it drop me a pm or an email.

p.s. where did you get your pride? :D

The General

Ah, what the heck, we are all big boys and can handle a little rant from me!

The short version of the story is that I bought an M2 AFCK and was troubled by a number of faults with this blade. The worst in my mind was the blade would not stay centered and everytime you opened the blade you were greated with the crunch sound of the blade scraping the inside of the liner! This made a mess of the Ti blade coating (BT2)

There were other problems, but it also suffered horrible blade wobble laterally and vertically.

I mailed BM and they said they had categorically not heard of any such problems so return the knife for inspection. They admitted it needed work and replaced the whole knife bar the blade (I suppose as it was cosmetically marked... as a result of the fault!)

Well I posted onto their web forum about the problems whilst waiting for the knife back and was amazed when a lot of people suddently started calling this a common flaw with this knife. Well after I get the knife back it was fine for a few days and then started doing exactly the same!

When I posted to this effect, me posting rights were removed. Several e-mails asking why my posting rights were removed were ignored and eventually I got a terse response saying I must have done something wrong to have my posting rights removed, or words to that effect. Either way the matter was closed and I was to drop the matter as it was evident from the tone that further e-mails would be ignored. I have to say the customer service lady at Benchmade was through all this very helpfull and I forget her name, but she is the ONLY reason I would even consider a BM knife. The company sucks from a general customer service point of view.

For a knife company to claim a well documented failing of a knife was 'unheard off' and ignore a customers questions about posting to the forum and generally make me feel like my business was unwanted is a terrible thing for any company to do ever. I was never unreasonable or ever rude. I work on the front line as a shop manager so I see how rude and unreasonable people are on a daily basis.

I guess I felt lied to, slighted and generally belittled. I know pride is not something to be...well proud off, but I felt wronged and BM made no effort to rectify the situation. I wond deal with a company where a customer is not a valued customer. The oft misquoted "the customer is always right" needs finishing "even when he is wrong"

I don't think I made any mistakes other than buying a BM product (well several actually) and thinking my custom was welcome.

Gosh - the bastar*s

I have just had two good experiences with the customer service.

I emailed them to say my AFCK had too much side to side balde play and they said ship it over.

Apart from the fact that I had to pay duty on its return it was a 100% better and they sharpened it up as well.

I have just traded this with SMAT for a BM942 that had some scratches on the clip and they are sending me one of those out FOC as well.

A lady named Angie dealt with both my queries and she has been very good.

The General

Angie, that was her name! In fairness to her after I e-mailed her with some questions about one of my other BM products (an 855 that was having lock failure probs) I was very uncertain about the response I would get.

Angie put me somewhat at ease as she explained that no matter how the rest of the company did things, she would always make sure my knives would be looked after as she would any customer regardless of problems with different parts of the company.

In fairness I think BM need to hire her as the head of the company as she is GREAT and could teach the rest of them how to do customer service and politeness.

If she ever left the company I would NEVER buy a new BM product.:p
