hi everyone here! i have been looking at various articles placed here for some time and finally got around to joining up.
Im sure a lot of my questions may have been dealt with by you long timers several times before so please bear with me
Firstly i have made a couple of knife sheaths for blades and handles i purchased in a norweigen knife fair (the name of which eludes me and probably isnt important) i have made these up (although both blades are not quite true in their handles, the spine is not quite straight in the stock. slapped wrist there.. unforgivable .. :C
still the sheaths are nice and i wish to treat them with a leather die to give more rigidity as the leather is not all that thick, 2mm i think and the edge cote finish i have used previously gave a plasticky glossy look which i didnt really like.
Secondly i would like some advice on making sami and scandinavian sheaths (with the stitching at the back/middle of the blade), i have a nice book, but being in norweigen it doesnt make life easy for me!
Hmm.. what else.. oh yeah uk suppliers, surely there must be a listing in here somewhere .. right guys?
finally; ive made a shaped handle from silver birch (for the lady) and suspect that it will be to soft a wood to really last, have i really wasted all that time, and what oils are best to soak handles in? (linseed?)
Ok just that for now then :D
thanks to you all for now!
Tim
