hi guys n girls i finally desided to get a proper bushcrafting knife (brk&t northstar) overall im very happy with it as in my eyes its more aceptable to sheeple than my sadly very tactical cold steel srk (great hard working knife) at least with the north star you can say its " simalar to rays from the bbc" ;) anyway as happy as i am with the knife i cant say the same with the sheath :( its one of the new ones and while it looks lovely and has good stiching and is obviously well made. the knife doesnt fit! :X the knife just bounces around in there and as its adeep throated type sheath theres no where to put some form of secondary retention strap :S
so the question is has anyone got any ideas how to either modify this sheath (before you ask im afraid i havnt a digital camara and i cant find any links) have a new one made, at a reasonable price or better still a kydex one that will fit, in an ideal world one that will let me carry a ferro rod, and allow baldrick style carry, i know long thread thanx for staying awake long enough to get this far :sign09:

Have you tried wet-forming it? Should make for a snugger fit...

The problem with the NS is that the handle tapers to the point and there is no guard, etc for the sheath to grip. I'd not be particularly keen to make a kydex sheath, because I think the new leather sheath is a better solution, but PM me if nobody wants to help you out.

to be honest i did try wet forming but due to the shape of the blade it didnt really help and although i thought id insulated the blade it still went a little rusty, it cleaned ok though

BTW, what's "baldrick style carry'. Does it involve turnips?

Micky, Speak to RipidBoy on this site or on BCUK he made me a new leather sheath for my northstar when it didn't have a useable one for a couple of months.. its got great fit and finish and was very reasonably priced for a hand made item! :)

The problem with the NS is that the handle tapers to the point and there is no guard, etc for the sheath to grip.

About the only area for grip is where the blade begins - other than that, it'd have to be a pure friction fit. Which would not be nice.

Unless, of course, the handle were modified slightly - say a round indent for the Kydex to form into, a la Terzuola?

i,d rather not butcher the knife if pos, but i agree the only place 4 a retaining strap would be where the grip blade/choil meet

Well, firstly - Kydex sheaths generally retain a knife through mechanical action rather than straps; secondly - it would be a minor mod, nothing much.

If I did it, I might form a plastic indent into the tube pins.

OK, I have done it!

You asked for pictures in your email and I have gone one step better. I have created a demo sheath. It is advertised under Maker Sales (link (http://www.britishblades.com/forums/showthread.php?p=178094#post178094)). The price is double what I quoted you for a basic kydex sheath, but more than double the normal amount of labour went into it.

You also said you were reluctant to ship your sheath overseas. I understand your reluctance, but a sheath that has to fit as closely as this really needs tailored fitting. This especially applies to your knife, because you say your new BRKT sheath doesn't fit and I find mine fits perfectly.

I am prepared to sell the demo sheath to you for half price. If you still want to go ahead, how about you put down a full deposit via paypal and then I will send you the pictured demo sheath on an 'acceptance basis'? If it fits your knife and you want to keep it, let me know and I will keep your payment. If not, just let me know your decision, and mail it back to me within a week of receiving it and I will refund your deposit in full.

A fine sheath Dan, also a good deal for Micky.
As a solution to the baldrick style the new sheath has conveniently located hollow rivets for the attatchment of paracord. ;)
