View Full Version : Bladesports forum title?
OK fellas, you have your forum and best of luck with it. I must say when I looked to see how much stuff had already been posted, I was amazed. I had no idea there was this much interest already expressed, so it certainly deserves some airtime.
Next question, what do you want as a forum title?
Is Bladesports & Cutting Competitions OK (bit of a mouthful?), BladeSports UK?
Take your pick.
Also, would you like a custom skin/header/graphic? If yes, you'll have to have what I come up with cos it'll need to fit in with the rest of the site, but the option is there. You can specify generally dark or generally light and I'll do a custom header for it.

May I suggest a poll?

I'd have thought 'Bladesports' covered it... no? :X

Hi Martyn - Thanks for the options.
Need to circle back with Ian et al to ensure we are on the same sheet :)

May I suggest a poll?
Ahhh, no. Hate the things. A few informed suggestions should be all it takes to whittle it down. ;)

BladeSports UK would be good.

OK, I prefer Bladesports and Cutting Comps. so that non-Bladesports "cutting" threads can have a home too.

yup, 'Bladesports and Cutting Comps' gets my vote

How about the best of all worlds with minimal change to the present title?

On 2nd thoughts, better to keep the forum name as is, in keeping with the spirit of the sub forum request :D, there is always the 'club' sub-forum option...
The objective is to encourage and promote an interest in blade sports, sports cutting and related items

Maybe just a trim to 'Bladesports & Cutting Comps' then?
This should not be a public vote, I spoke about what we should call ourselves with Ian (Longstrider) two days ago when we were discussing that I would print proper professional ‘BladeSports UK’ licences for the certified cutters so we would become a proper organisation . You should ask Ian what he feels about this issue as he is presently the head of BladeSports UK.

Farid, i dont think we are voting, its just suggestions for the forum section. no one is trying to set a name for the association ;-)

Ian (Longstrider) has been trying to carry BladeSports UK forward by himself for the last 3 years at least, I am now trying to give him as much help as possible so we can carry this organization forward and get members interested in this sport and now we are going to ask people on here who are not even certified cutters and who have never cut in a cutting competition ‘what we should call it’ !!
You must be joking,
Ask Ian

Or perhaps speak nicely to Martyn? It's his forum Farid. At the end of the day, he could call it what he wants, or even close the sub-forum back down again. :)

no, i wasnt joking, i was trying to be nice. its great that BB is offering a platform for Ian and other bladesport participants and those interested in bladesports. This is the way interest grows, but if you just call it after the main supporter of the sport, it may not bring in the audience you need for things to grow.

There are 2 different things here
- One is the association Ian and Farid and others may be trying to set up
- The other is the name of this section of the forum, which will of course be opened to said association but not exclusively. Hence why Martyn asked in the first place
Yes I know it is his forum and he can do what he likes and I respect that, but remember one thing, without makers, enthusiasts/collectors and forums like BB would not exist at all, I am sure Martyn knows that. The issue of a name for this organization, the Head of the BladeSports UK should have the opportunity express his thoughts as well.

When has Ian not been allowed to express an opinion?

Farid, it's really great that Martyn has created a forum for the associated activities of cutting stuff but the moment you try and make it solely about a single organisation and associated ego's then I imagine the goodwill will dissipate faster than spit in the rain.
Just because there is a formal organisation for cutting comps does not and should not mean that other people are proscribed from organising different ones.
Start like this and you will kill the forum at it's birth. And that's just my personal opinion from someone keen to see BB encompass all that is positive about blade related stuff in the UK.
Danzo
This Sub-Forum is directly related to BladeSports UK (the head of the organization ‘Ian’ and it’s certified cutters) , it wouldn't be professional or Right to call our association one thing and call the sub-forum another thing. Doesn’t sound right.

It may not sound right to you Farid, but I do not believe that in Martyn's mind this section is dedicated to Ian's organisation. If it doesn't sound right to you and Ian I am sure you'll be able to set up a forum on the association's website where the names and logos will be exactly what you want them to be.

I'm thinking the distinction between bladesports and BladeSports (TM) needs to be made.

Everybody touch their forefingers and thumbs together and hum......breathing in nice thoughts and breathing out all those nasty ones :noggin:
Martyn has been good enough to set up a forum section dedicated to blade sports and cutting competitions.....
Now draw a line under that.....
For 'official' BladeSports UK stuff their is an option for a 'club' sub forum in the 'clubs' section....
As such the sub forum that is already set up, I certainly hope, will generate interest....
When it comes to competitions under the BladeSports UK banner Martyn has also laid on a solution.....
The BladeSports UK club forum will need sorting between Ian and Martyn directly
Are we all in our happy places again....if yes unclasp your fingers and thumbs if not continue humming for a few more hours :sad54:
Cheers

it's only a name surely? isn't the content of the forum is far more important than the title. People are soon going to realize that it contains info on comps no matter how obscure the title is.
i see no reason why the forum title should be the same as Ian's organization, they are two separate things, no?

Gentlemen!!!!!
Please break out the tea and choccy hobnobs forthwith and chill out for a bit. Otherwise this will get locked and we will await Ians decision on the title.
Just for clarity, this is NOT a club forum, it's a BritishBlades forum where BritishBlades members who are interested in competition cutting of any kind, from anywhere, any club in any country can discuss their interest.
I have already offered Tom the opportunity of a separate specific club forum under the club forums section (along with LSECCA, EMCCU etc) and told him to ask the chair (Longstrider I assume) to contact me about it if interested, though I think the obvious overlap would make it of limited value (for the meantime anyway).
Farid, you've got the wrong end of the stick, we are talking about naming a section of BritishBlades, NOT naming your club for you! Wind your neck in.
This is not a club forum, it is a general competition cutting forum! Clear?
...and on that note, the name stays as it is now.
