I have, until today, stored all details of certifications in the UK on my original 'tower' PC.
Due to a lack of storage space in the house this Pc was relegated to storage in the workshop when not in use....
PC's don't like steel dust methinks :C
I started it up today and within seconds there were sparks and smoke. There was, of course, nothing after that :C
I KNOW I should have had it all on disc .... but I didn't :C
Therefore would all BladeSports UK Certified Cutters please PM me with their details again. (Name, address, phone number and e-mail please) I know most of you from memory, but don't want to miss anyone out from the new list. I'll be keeping a hard copy as well as what's on my new laptop this time
I will be shouting for annual subs very soon too .....

Ian - it may not have fried the hard drive - just the motherboard - so your data should be recoverable. in fact it may only be the power supply thats fried - that would be where most dust would end up - and easily replaceable
Have you tried taking the hard disc out and pluging it into another PC as a slave disc might only be the PC or just the power pack that's shot

Send th' drive to me, or Paul, or someone who can & we will;)
Aye, I'd offer to help but looks like you have a few "not strangers" that make more sense - I'll add my name to those saying odds on the HDD is still fine, though. Odds on it's only the power supply if it were that dramatic, as more or less everything else in the PC is 12v or 5v. New PSU won't set you back much, so could plausibly get the whole tower running just fine for the sake of replacing that (just blow all the dust off the innards before you plug it back in!!)
Whether it's worth the cost & effort to save the whole thing depends what else lived in the tower, mind.

Send me the hard disk and I'll see what I can do mate. I have relevant USB cables and DVD burner etc, so if the HDD is still good I can burn it's content to DVD for you.

Take this out, replace that, mend the other .. Anyone would think you guys actually believed I knew what the hell I was looking at if I opened the thing up  Wouldn't know a motherboard from a hard drive if they both got up and bit me ! (I kid you not)
Thanks for the offers guys, but my brother knows all about the wretched things and what makes them tic (or go 'Fizzle, crack, poof! like mine did) so he's going to take a gander at it for me.
In the meantime, my request for updated details from all cutters stands (Some of the details I have/had are probably out of date anyway )

Could I suggest that for the moment only paper records are kept. There is a lot of information here and if it was to be lost or hacked a lot of problems could occure for all the members.
I hope your data storage complies with the Data Protection Act 1998 (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/29/contents) with regard to the Personal Data (http://www.ico.gov.uk/upload/documents/library/data_protection/detailed_specialist_guides/160408_v1.0_determining_what_is_personal_data_-_quick_reference_guide.pdf) of members.
Or are you relying on the club exemption (http://www.mcofs.org.uk/data.asp)?
