View Full Version : An EMCCU Poem
The time has come now
Danzo said
To speak of many things
Of AXIS locks and Poliwogs
And Sheffield penknife springs
And why we spend so bl**y much
On Guyceps knives, and Shings.
The famous EMCCU
Had met back in the Summer
And looked at knives whilst drinking beer
And said 'we'll have another'
But the crew could not agree
Where next we all should gather.
So, today, I ask my chums
Where shall we meet again?
In Nottingham, or Chesterfield
or Sheffield, and when?
On which day, and of which month
Should we meet up again?
We all have thing we want to show
to other knifey blokes,
With common minds who think alike,
Without the snidey jokes
We get from partners, girlfriends, wives
And mainly their in-folks.
Over beers we'll no doubt chat
About our young friend Andy
And as he needs to find a girl
Our advice could be, well, handy
We do though need to find a place
Where working girls are randy.
So gather all you Midlands crew
Our meet ups are too fleeting.
We'll drink some beer and show some knives
And extend a friendly greeting
To anyone who cares to make
A journey to our meeting.
:D

I actually started to post a thread about a meet-up in Chesterfield last night but got distracted. I was just logging on to do so now and Danzo's post was the first thing I saw. So if anyone is interested I would be more than happy to arrange a meet-up in the home of the Crooked Spire

Good man! Simple advice. Pick a date and tell people, don't ask them. If you ask everyone wants to rearrange, if you tell then most of us will rearrange.

I think the date that was mentioned in Sheff was the end of November so I was going to suggest the last saturday so that would be the 26th. I had originally wanted to hold this at Saltergate, CFC's ground but the fixture list at this time of year will prohibit that ( a fact that a certain pale rider helped me to overlook ) so it looks like I will be ringing round the pubs if everyone is happy with Chesterfield as a venue.
Let me know what you all think. :)

I have no problems with Chesterfield as a venue. It's easy enough to access from most everywhere in the East Midlands and South Yorks by road or public transport.
Any pub venue needs to be close enough to be affordable by cab if too far to walk from the train station.

Wonderful, Danzo. Shall we start a float for Andy's sake?

If there's a problem gettiing a venue at the end of November how about between Christmas and New year when we're all kicking our heels?
(Partly because I think it's a good idea and partly because I can't go on the 26th :( )

26th is the Colin KC hammerin so possibly not the best date!
Oh and I still have a stack of membership cards if anyone needs one.
Cheers

I'm in, even though I'm 're-invigorating the homelands' until Xmas. :(
Decorating :|
Picture the scene:
Wifey: "Where are you going?"
Me: "To see the EMCCU"
Wifey: "Where is that happening?"
Me: " Chesterfield."
Wifey: "But all the walls are bare of plaster and render and we need to get things done by Xmas so Tiny Tim (Sammo - the 'Negotiator' :] ) has his bedroom back...."
Me: " So?"
You get the picture :D
p.s. Having said that, I'll try and get her to drive so I can sample the real ale...there WILL be Real Ale won't there?..... :scared14:

I jolly well hope so!
:D
I had forgotten that Rogans suggestion was Colins Hammerin weekend, but I don't think I can really afford either the time or the money for a whole weekend away from a very pregnant Mrs Danzo and a very bouncy Sammi-Lou.
I'm in for a day up here, sorry Colin.

Err, what exactly constitutes the EMCCU?
(and whilst I am being perplexed, what's a KITH?)
East Midlands Cutlers and Collectors union
Knife in the hat
East Midlands Cutlers and Collectors union
And they are....?
Knife in the hat
Of course, I should have realised :S
And they are....?
When booking a venue for a meet up a name is normaly required. Thus the EMCCU was formed so that we had a name to book venues with and also membership cards were produced. The idea of the cards was so that we could explain to any police who might stop us why we were carrying so many sharp things.
Let me know the date when confirmed! I hold out no special hopes - but if I'm in the area...
Mind you, I might have to RMSD my knives to someone and get them RMSD'd back if I came. You can just hear the Tannoy announcement at Inverness. "Would the knife wielding maniac on the Sheffield flight come forward and identify his luggage"...

I'm in if it lines up with one of my weekends home.

Last night after I originally posted I thought I had better look at the fixture list for CFC and the 26 Nov is a home game. Now this might just be me being over cautious but I wonder if a busy pre Christmas Saturday added with the extra police presence that a game brings is actually the best time to get a local publican to let a bunch of knife collectors loose on their premises.
There is also the point that quite a few folks will be using the train as transport probably at the same sort of times as the away supporters, even with an EMCCU card I would hate to have to explain to the local plod exactly what I was doing with a backpack full of knives whilst in the midst of a crowd of footy supporters.
It is with this in mind that I was thinking about suggesting moving the date back by one week. Also this way the EMCCU meet-up does not coincide with Colins Hammerin
So what does everyone think :D

Great idea - I'll be able to come then :D :D
Seriously, Rogan, a very sensible note of caution.

Yes real ale will definateley be a factor in choosing the venue. ;) I have three pubs shortlisted so now its just down to making the calls :)
The date is good, let's get organising! And we shall have a conkers match!
