View Full Version : Unreliable posting

I tend to write long posts using only two or three fingers, so I can get really irate when I press submit and the computer loses my typing.

Also, it is the early hours of the UK morning, so it can't be because the BB server is too busy. I just don't understand what's wrong.

After I press submit, I get a browser "Page cannot be displayed" message. The title bar reads "Server not found".

Then if I press refresh, I get the BB Invalid Link page.

If I press Back, I usually get a blank NewReply page. If I paste the text back in and resumbit it, I am told that I have posted a duplicate thread in the last 5 minutes.

But the original 'duplicate' thread is not on BB! I have to wait 5 mins or more and then paste it back in again.

What's wrong with my PC, connection or BB?

Why does the duplicate thread warning happen when I was unsuccessful?

I've had this a couple of times too so maybe it's a BB problem.

I've started copying posts into Word before hitting submit, just in case...

The BB server is in the states, so you have to factor a 5 hour from BST time difference for busy/quiet.

Also, part of the problem is browser time-outs, this is your browser timing out on a server request if the request is hanging in space for too long. When writing long posts, I've got into the habit of highlighting and copying the entire contents just before hitting submit. Then if there are any time-outs or server issues, you've a copy of your post on the PC's clipboard ready to just paste into a new editor window and hit submit.

Try typing in word, then cut and hit reply on BB. Then you can paste directly in and it should be OK. I have had this happen a few times, but not for a while. It is a PITA though, and a long way of posting something!!

Yes, I do the highlight and copy, but only for longer posts. I also frequently preview the post so if I have a timeout, I can Go Back to a useable draft.

I've just had the exact same thing happen to me twice on a short post!!

It happens to me too, but more often on other forums than on BB.

I usually decide that what I had written wasn't worth saving and go off to make coffee. I'd be annoyed if it was an amazing Zebedee tutorial though :(
