My new Toy
photo here
I flew back to the big sand pit a few weeks ago, and when I got here, I realised that I'd left all my sharpening gear back in the side of my rucksack in the UK.
Nuts.
So, I decided to pull the trigger on something I've been eyeing up for a while.
The Edgepro Apex.
I ordered kit 4, which includes;
120 grit
220 grit
320 grit
600 grit
1000 grit
2 blank plates
15 sheets 1500 grit tape
15 sheets 2000 grit tape
ceramic rod
water bottle
Sharpening jig
nylon storage case
printed instructions
instruction DVD
Operation is easy.
The angle is very adjustable, with no set angles. there are coloured marks on the jig as a guide.
this means that you can sharpen consistently to any angle.
Here's a video of one in use.

There are two large suckers to secure the jig to the bench (I have granite worksurfaces, which hold perfectly)
The jig has a backstop which is adjusted for the depth of the blade.
There is a little more setup required than with a sharpmaker, but to be honest, I'm getting better results with this.
Working through the grits/tapes I'm coming up with very sharp polished edges.
I'll get photos up later.
