View Full Version : Question for all you Land Rover Series 1 experts...

The vehicle in question is a 1954 Series 1. I had a friend ask me what colour the wheels should be on their Series 1 to keep it original. I said I thought all Series 1's had their wheels painted in the body colour, my friend said they'd heard the wheels were originally limestone (off-white) in colour.

My google-fu is weak this evening, so I thought I'd see if there was anyone on BB who knew the definitive answer.

Personally I'd have said paint it whatever colour you like best and be damned, but a round of drinks now depends on the answer... :]

TIA

Ah right, I thought they were only painted off-white from Series IIA. All I was basing my reasoning on was all the original-spec restorations you see in mags had body coloured wheels.

I can't remember seeing them with off-white more likely green or black.

No expert but was also thinking green or black...
Got these links though...

restorers guide book (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Original-Land-Rover-Restorers-Military/dp/1906133158)

some pics (http://imagerover.photoshelter.com/gallery/G0000S1gO7uiIoBE)

might be usefull (http://www.roverhaul.com/)

Hope you get your drinks as the info seems to be a bit conflicting as some has wheels matching the body colour other black or green and yet more off white :pirate:

Up to and including series 11 had body coloured wheels. 11A onwards had limestone.

I had a feeling this was the case - if that isn't conclusive I don't know what is :D
