Hello
I just found this forum today. Looks like a great place you have here.
I like anything to do with Knives and the outdoors. I make handforged Knives in my charcoal forge. I also like collecting them too.
I just wanted to say Hello before I start to post.

Hi Dale.
Dont be shy and show your work. Do you use a selfmade forge? I hope to make my own after winter so I can start to hammer some ugly shapes in pieces of metal...

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I am looking forward to posting.
Yes I do use a homemade forge. It is an oval galvanized washtub lined w/ a clay, sand, and wood ash lining, air is powered by a hand-cranked blower. If you need more info just let me know.

Chad Good to see your friendly face(name) here. Looks like another great forum.

Hi Dale -
Likewise welcome aboard.
Would that be like the Tim Lively washtub forge?

Great.
Are you going to the BKS show in Gembloux, 8th and 9th of November?
I stood and watched and prattled with two BKS members at the Nontron show. Very friendly, ready to explain what they were doing and why; they made it look so easy...

Keith,
I'm in Köln/Cologne for the weekend...So no show for me. Do you know any of the people of BKS? I went to their site but its like 3 years outdated...
Dale,
that's just the thing I was planning to put together...
I read somewhre you have to be careful heating it up as it may "blow up" if heated to fast. What's your experience. Maybe we should start a new thread on the resource or tips'n'tricks....

This is a charcoal forge,Tim Lively made it popular. It will not *blow up*. Its open air so no gases would ever build up. Maybe the blow up problem would be stones in the clay mixture? I have never had any problems. Although you do have to let it completely dry or it will crack like crazy when you fire it up the first time. I can start a new thread if you like . I would also like to learn how to post pics and where. Also there is a reveiw of my knives at JMs site, I would love to announce it,where should I post that thread? There is a picture of the forge in the review.
Dale
