I bought one of the above lighters from ODS last week intending to use it as a safe, indestructable lighter for bushcraft etc.

I read the instructions today (before throwing them away) which warned that the lighter must only be used for lighting cigarettes!!!

Evidentally i must start smoking or give up the lighter....

the lighter must only be used for lighting cigarettes!!!

i bet that puts a lot of BB business out to Brunton Helios instead then :biggthump :stoned: :smokin: :naughty:

that lighter can be used for Bushcraft use...as can any of them...

the reason such is stated is that some idiot out there probably tried to light something like a tree with it and caused it to either to become to hot and explode or jammed up the ignition system with debris

If you read other lighters including the Brunton Helios they will say a similiar thing..as does zippo....common sense is to be used which some people lack that of...this is the reason you see the warnings like "don't iron clothing while wearing" the companies have to cover themselves... use the item wisely and safely and you will be fine.

If you would like to return the lighter than please do so for a complete refund if you are not satisfied.

Sorry Joe - my posting was supposed to be merely humerous!

As a pyromaniac, this lighter will find plenty of use with me...... there can't be many items that i can't burn or melt with this little baby!

Not a problem... some take what they read in forums as though it is written in stone....wondering if ugug took it seriously or not now?...hmmmm

The Shock-Pro "Hockey Puck" is good size lighter, but to hold the volume of fuel it does it would have to be. Since the flame comes out of the center you would have to tilt it inward to ignite a fire...unless you took twigs and propped them up then laying tender across the top such as other twigs or leaves. Creating a roof like effect in which you could then ignite from underneath and not from the side. As long as the tinder was dry though it should ignite quickly so there would be no need in worrying that the lighter would overheat even on a tilt.

I think the main concern with the Shock-pro is that if tilted to long on its side or at a angle while lit that it could cause it to heat up the casing which could in turn cause the lighter to explode or catch fire.

So just don't go trying to melt the lighter itself and you should be ok.

cheers,
Joe

You'd need to be a 60 a day smoker to need to carry the shock-pro around just to light cigs. That thing is humungous!

for EDC yes it is a bit over the edge, but for a few days out in the wilderness trip it is ideal.

i'm not at all bothered about the size of the Shockpro - i wanted a safe, tough, reliable lighter with a big fuel tank - the Shockpro will light uo over 1000 times without a refill. i can't see a zippo size lighter achieving that...

the real beauty of the Shochpro is the superb intense flame it produces - up to 2 cm long. i don't think i'll get 1000 light-ups on the "fun" size flame though....

You should try playing around with a Colibri Trifecta. Triple butane jets, flames long enough to torch your enemies from a safe distance. Shame theyre so fragile tho.

You'll also be please to know that the Blaze Orange Delta is safely in my pocket now, as I convinced my girl that I deserved an early Christmas present (well that and I gave her the money for it) :p
