BTW Trond, I'll have one:D
This may sound a bit dumb but...... is it just the steel? We fit our own handles etc? :D Seems that it must be, but hey what do I know ;)

Hey Tony,
There is no such thing as a dumb question :)
Yes it is "just" the blade, So go ahead make your handle Tone :D
Collin, you are on my list, thanks

Yes you can, but why? am I allowed to ask that?

So that I can do the HT myself, no offence intended of course Trond:)
Go ahead, knock yourself out :)
None taken, as i recon you havent tested any of my blades, and therefore can not know how the heat treat is on them.
Do you want me to save some of the edge so that you can fine grind the edge after heat treat? I usually grind them before heat treating, but saves 1 mm on the edge, so that i can do that after heat treating them.

Yah, that's just about perfect Trond, thanks:D
PM sent - it's too swoopy to resist !
Trond, I assume you're going to put your name on the blade like you do with the ones on your website? It'll be nice to have the maker's name on this soon-to-be classic
Now I just need a little help making the handle and sheath...
youre on my list to Rob :-)
If there is anything i can help you with on the rest, do not hazitate to ask

Can I get a handle already shaped from anywhere or would I have to start from scratch with a square bit of wood. I think I could manage an ammount of finishing and putting all the bits together but help would be good. Also is there anyone on the site who could either make or provide precut sections for a sheath and would it be expensive?
As in Tony's question I hope this isn't dumb but I haven't attempted anything like this before.
Thanks
Bill
Hi Bill
as i said to Tony etc

*cough* Kydex... :) Ask Colin if you want leatherwork, as I think mine still needs more practice.
I can help with handles if needed.
It occurred to me last night that I ought to improvise a paracord-wrap handle, then use it to carve the wood for the real handle, then use the handled knife to cut the leather for the sheath
(Yes, I am a sad computer scientist  )

No Probs with the sheath "kits" I'll make one up & show it, then cut out a bunch as & when anyone wants:D & no, not expensive, prolly a fiver'll cover it;)

I am actually quite pleased that there is interest in this woodlorish type blade,
the reason being, that it was I who commissioned Trond to make the blade
(in the picture at the top of this thread). It is on its way to me now along with
a few stick tang blades (more typical of Trond’s work) and a few blocks of
curly birch. :)
This will be the first knife that I will try and build, so I may be seeking some
help. :( I will try my best. I do have some expertise in forming leather mainly in association with making items for falconry. From looking at pictures of the
woodlore sheath and the construction of the sheaths on some of my large fixed
blades, it seems that the better sheaths have a hard grade of leather sandwiched between the sewn edges of the sheath so that if the cutting edge makes contact with the side of the sheath it touches the thick leather and not the stitches. I still would like to see Colin’s sheath kits.
With a full tang blade, the handle is going to be made of two slabs, contoured
to the shape of the tang and my hand. I’m not sure how easy it will be, (I do
have a few books) but if it all goes horribly wrong then I’ll end up with low
profile carbon fibre (or similar) slab handle and a kydex sheath…. a kind of
tactical bush craft knife.
Does anybody know a UK source of those brass handle screws or rivets?
Regards, Paul
Yay, got my order in, I want a sheath kit too Col. ;)

No worries Martyn:D
This will be the first knife that I will try and build, so I may be seeking some
help.
Well, this is the best place to find it. ;)
A good point actually, perhaps a sticky thread in members projects when Trond ships all the blades out, will be of use to all who are assembling them. Tip's & advice, pictures and such.
No worries Martyn:D
Cool. :biggthump
ta. ;)
That sounds like a good idea Martyn :biggthump
With a full tang blade, the handle is going to be made of two slabs, contoured to the shape of the tang and my hand.
While I'm waiting (patiently...) I'm going to try a practice run. I've come up with two ideas for doing this:
take a single block of wood and carve it to shape, cut it (neatly!) in half to produce the two scales, then plane the cut edges to make the scales the correct width to accomodate the tang inbetween; clamping the scales for planing could be tricky if they are very contoured
construct a sandwich of the two scales and a spacer the same width as the tang, then carve; stopping my sandwich falling apart may be a little tricky
So, any ideas which would be the better option? Or is there a better way that I haven't thought of (probably!)?
Oh and Martyn, mabe it is time to make the sticky already? maybe move the last posts over there?

Sounds good to me, at least you are not going to be scratching the tang while profiling the handle :biggthump ....or wondering why there is blood all over the floor, because you've forgot to tape up the sharp blade :banghead:
Paul

Martyn's done the sticky thread over in Members Projects - that'll leave this thread clear for discussing orders rather than assembly
...or wondering why there is blood all over the floor, because you've forgot to tape up the sharp blade
there'll be blood all over the floor anyway 'cos I'm not very good at carving anything other than radishes :lmao:
Trond.... Have you thought of numbering the first lot you send out? Have you got a name for it yet? Its got to have a name.... bushcrafty people like knives with names....

Well mine is #1 :D
Yes I agree it should have a name.
I wonder if it should have a Norwegian name, something that will reflect the fact that it is a outdoor kife/ bush craft made in Norway. At the end of the day it is totally down to our friend Trond.

" vilmark troll by Trond the noggin!!???"
I quite like Trond's Woody - ahem, if ya git me meaning. ;) :D :D
I'm not sure about naming a knife Woody, it reminds me too much of the character from Cheers, and he was not a man to trust with sharp objects
:censored: me. When I offered to do the posting I thought;
1. There would be about four of you.
2. I was sober.
Ah well, as I said in the other post in Projects or somewhere down the bottom of the site that I normally avoid, email me your addresses as well. Trond and I can then double check.
:thanks:
If anybody doesn't like this arrangement tell Trond, not me. Well, tell me you are telling Trond. Not just me.
And surely the name is 'Noggin'?
:approve:
Danzo
I know you are all very exited about this  , but please, make some new threads for discussions, that has notting to do with ordering on this thread.
I am now going to make a thread on "members projects" about name for my blade. :p

Boaty, there is something peculiar about you.
First of all, you like knots (monkey's fists and hangman's nooses, of all things).
http://www.britishblades.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1379&highlight=monkey
Then you seem to like the idea of a tool helping to make itself (the blade making itself a handle and sheaf)...
Are you reading my mind, or are we both showing the same symptoms of a well known disorder?
Keith.

If a newbie and long time lurker might ask if the sheath
kits might include storage for a firesteel?
Or would that be too close to plagiarism? or possibly a
rerendering of a classic design?
Anyway I'll have a knife and a sheath if that's possible

Hi Bum,
Welcome :newbie:;)
Achully, I plan on offering a firesteel option (if I can) & after all it is the sincerest for of flattery (besides, loads of sheaths have a firesteel storage;))

On monday i am going to send an e-mail to all that has ordered, with time of sending, sending costs, and i am going to send a form for you to fill the creditcards details on, this form is to be faxed to me. Do under no sercomstices send your details as a mail or PM, cause i do not think this is safe

Good point Trond,
& I will re-iterate DO NOT SEND CC DETAILS BY PM, OR EMAIL!!
This is whether YOU think it is safe, or not. The Vendor (in this case Trond) has a cunning plan, best stick to it;)
And for :censored: 's sake don't send your cc details to me or I will go and live on an island off the coast of Venezuela.

Thanks
Just heard from Trond, my blade is in the post. :boldred:
I sent my card details this morning and the blade is on its way this evening, service does not get any quicker than that. :35:
Thanks Trond, I'll try not to mess up the handle too badly.

Matt!
Send Trond a PM and ask if he will make a felleskap for you. He's a nice guy.... considering hes a viking! :lmao:
Yes il make some more, anyone else that want some?
As there are still a big interest in the Felleskap blade i have made a new batch, and i still have two blades left unsold, please send me a PM or an e-mail trond@kniv.net
if you want one. First to order get their blades.
I wil not be making any more felleskap for a while, as i am up to my neck with other work. :)
Now it is to late for a felleskap blade for this time, the last 2 blades are now sold. I dont know when i am going to make more, but i wil make a list of people as they are ordered, and wil come back here with an add, so that there is a chance for new makers to purchase a Felleskap :)
I have now some names on my list, and i expect to make a new batch ready for delivery in the beginning of march, if there are more people that want to make their own Felleskap knife, e-mail me at trond@kniv.net
the time limit to order this time wil be 28th of febuary
Thanks
And to those who has ordered by PM only, please send me an e-mail with your adresses, and the number of blades required, this is cause it is easier for me to keep track of who has ordered, and who has just asked out of interest.
Thanks
(And also cause i have deleted a couple too many PMs lately  )
