Hi folks,

I am currently carrying a lot of new knives and just spotted this sitting in my computer drawer, idle. I thought that I would put it up for a passaround. It is a Large Plain Classic with double thumb lugs so if you're left handed I can't be called biased :biggthump

Usual rules apply (see Martyn's sticky at top of the passaround page) Please don't put me in an awkward position if you don't meet the guidelines  I'll also need your proper name and address.

If you want to take part;

1. Put your name on this thread and PM me with your details.
2. Include a list of all participants in your post.
3. Keep knife and use it for a week then send to the next person, by RMSD only.

This is a user knife and has all the scratches and dings that go with it, so please do use it  Only thing is, don't sent it onto the next person blunt :yuck:

If I have to, I'll put a cap on this at about 15 people. I do want it back :P

Cheers,

Mark

SEE POST 15 FOR THE LIST AND PICS. WHEN YOUR WEEK'S UP, REMEMBER TO PM FOR THE NEXT PERSON'S ADDRESS DETAILS !

Hi folks,

We have 17 people starting off on Monday coming. I'd just say, once again, that this is a used knife so please do use it.

Remember to sharpen her up before the next visit. I'm not looking for anything like the Gettysburg address but please post a few comments about it or a review if you like. A wide opinion base is a great way for yourselves or the casual reader here to judge whether this knife is worth buying. Self-indulgence is the secondary point of a passaround

Above all enjoy!

Stew, its on its way to you - ZU951725330GB refers.

Well, some thoughts: I was looking forward to getting this sebbie more than anything. When I opened the parcel, to be honest, I wasnt sure what to think - it was well made, the action was smooth and addictive, the steel is obviously fantastic - but I have other knives that I felt more 'at home' with straight away.
After playing with and carrying it for a while, I began to see why it is so highly thought of. Every time I opened it, I opened and closed it a few times, just to feel the action at work...I know its only a basic lock but it is nice.
Danzo's comments about needing to own a sebbie are bang on - This is Marks knife and always will be. If that knife was my own - I would love it forever! I may get one later this year just to have one.

Mark - thanks for the opportunity to handle a Sebbie, its much appreciated.

Hi folks,

I may have to go offline for a while shortly. I will know on Wednesday for sure. If that is the case as I think it will be, please continue the passaround by contacting each other in due course. Post number 15 has the schedule details.

I might get onto the forum, but I am not sure if I'll be able so I thought I'd mention it now while I remember. I am sure, however, that a moderator or administrator can sort out any queries if they arise.

Cheers,

Mark

To update my previous post about my possibly being offline later, I found out this afternoon that I'm not going :rolleye13 - there's a story if you ever meet me or I'm not in gaol for wringing somebody's neck.

So, to the point, I'll be around if anyone has to PM me about the Sebbie, etc.

Thanks,

Mark

Hhm, to say that I was looking forward to trying this knife out would be a big understatement.
I wanted to know what all the fuss was about, and boy, I'm sold.

This knife is a serious workhorse and coped with everything I threw at it. I'm sure it could take more quite happily but I didn't want to abuse someone else's knife.
It's not as appealing to my eye as some other knives but it looks like it performs. I think I will have to get one of the engraved models or the wood inlayed versions. :)

The double thumb stud seems a bit stupid. I tried opening with my left hand a few times but it doesn't work very well at all because of the lock getting in the way. Also, as the clip can only go on one way round, to get it out from a left hand pocket required me to twist my hand uncomfortably.

I would be interested to hear how a real southpaw gets on with one.

I really like the double bump in the clip - it improves the holding ability of the clip considerably.

Oh, and as I snapped the tip off, I've reground it into an American Tanto shape - I figured you wouldn't mind mind Mark. joke

I'll post it on to Tiffers tomorrow...

Collected the sebbie today from the post office along with my Mnandi :D I opened the Mnandi first and that was a huge mistake! I was so wowed by that knife that when I opened up the box with the sebbie inside it, my reaction wasnt the best!!

I initially thought it was ugly, too big (compared to the Mnandis delicate lines) and didnt sit nicely in my hand. It felt clumsy and I didnt feel safe opening and closing it right handed. Back into the box it went while the Mnandi went into my pocket :D

Fast forward several hours of various bits and pieces until I get home and show both knives to HWTHMBO.

swoosh-snick swoosh-tick swoosh-snick swoosh-tick swoosh-snick swoosh-tick swoosh-snick swoosh-tick............HWTHMBO was enthralled! Everything about the Sebbie was perfect for him. The weight(133g) was light enough to enable carrying such a big knife easily while the shape and form of the handle was subtle enough to make it comfortable in a reasonable sized hand. HWTHMBO liked the thumbstud being available from both sides, not from a user point of view, its purely aesthetic for him! The finish on the titanium handle gave a nice secure grippy feel to him while the mottled finish on the blade also met his approval. The feel when the blade pivotted back and forward is silky smooth with just enough resistance to keep it safe. The snick as it falls open is clean, clear and audible while the snick as it returns to base is very reassuring.

Once I had wrestled it back from him I had another play, its improved on my first impressions but its too large a knife for me. I dont have especially small hands believe me, quite the reverse infact :D Its just not proportionally right for me. Saying that, i did find it easier to open and close left handed than right

Oh yes, HWTHMBO has it back at the moment. I might get to use it at some point......I'll let you know if I do!!

I found that the Mnandi was a great little knife to hold as well. But I equally liked the Sebenza :) It's a knife which you have to get using for a fair while to appreciate fully - I still think it's one of the best knives around to carry. It sits very well on the pocket clip and is slim for it's size.

A full flat grind model has to be a great one to consider - but they're rare

I thought pretty much the same when I got mine (http://www.britishblades.com/forums/showthread.php?t=738&page=5) Tiffers (what's all the fuss about). But 2 1/2 years later, it's probably the one knife I wouldn't part with. You really do have to use it to appreciate it. It's simple and strong and does what it says on the tin. They are overpriced IMO, but you either pay up or live without - I paid up and am happy I did. :)

As I don't really enjoy coming onto this thread every month to appeal on the whereabouts of this knife,

Can the current holder please pm or email me as I am looking for it back.

I'll back up Mark on this one - I think this needs addressing. Mark has been good enough to offer a very expensive knife to the members here, with some simple rules. People have not adhered to these rules and I'm disappointed.

Mark has also had pm's. I last posted this to Mloc some time ago. I told Mark on Thursday evening I would be phoning the Post Office on Friday. As it's a bank holiday weekend I didn't expect an answer until tomorrow at the earliest, something I assumed wouldn't need explanation.

Roefisher
01-05-06, 10:25 PM
Yep, I got a pm'd ... you could have told me there was no info until over the weekend. I was waiting for news on Friday, as you know.

There's more wrong than that, anyway. Let's not get away from that fact to jump down my throat. This knife had been with at the most two people in over two months .... nothing was happening until I put questions out, see my post dates for times.

The only headway I've seemed to have made is when I come on here and make a public enquiry.

As I told an Admin, I don't care one jot about the knife, in comparision with the remaining ten people, who I feel have been let down a bagful - before it went missing.
