Im about to embark on my first scandi knife project. I would like to know how to go about peeing over the end of the stick tang onto the material at the very end of the handle.I have an idea that some sort of small washer can be put over the end of the stick before it is peened over, to spread the load a little onto the handle material? I was hoping to use some elk or reendeer crown horn for the butt end of the handle, so I as a first time user of this material, I am a bit concerned to try and get the right secure peened finish. I hope I have explained my question adiquately. Any advice or picture links would be most helpful. P.S. can you buy thes special peening washers ready made or can I just make them up-say out of a small bit of stainless?
Many Thanks iVAN

Have a read through fastbreak's leather handled knife tutorial HERE (http://www.britishblades.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13253). He gives some tips on riviting and there are some good Q-and-A's in the following pages.

Hope this helps,

Dai

I just did my first the other day , cut a piece of nickle silver into an eye shape , and set that into the top of the handle , with a hole in the center, filed the end of the tang round and quite thin so it fits though the hole, then i modded a nail counter sink ( made it round inside with a dremel grinding bit ) then i heated the end of the tank and let it cool slowly, clamped the blade in the vice , used a small amount of epoxy ( just in case ) then i hit the tang gently to flatten it out , then used the punch to get a round Finnish on the peened tang ,,,, hope this makes sense lol bit tired :)
