Remembering some old post on using molten salt for harderning, it occurs to me that melting furnaces used by jewellery makers can easily reach 1100c and have crucubles that can be filled with the right kind of salt for HT, has anyone tried this before?

Hmmmmm, how big are the furnaces? (bearing in mind that you have to get the crucible in & fit a (or multiple) blade(s) in too)

The 1Kg furnace is about 4 inches deep so only good if you're making small folders or little knives but it does give you the opportunity to differentially HT stainless! I don't know about the bigger ones, maybe one of the members could enlighten us.
