Just watched this film, what a pile of rubbish.

If you're gonna watch it, stop reading now, cos here's a spoiler.

Let me set the scene. This US gov guy (played by Benicio Del Toro) comes back from Cosova, he's been doing some dodgy "wet work" for the US gov. Anyway, he's flipped and starts killing American civilians (he thinks they're robots). Enter Tommy Lee Jones. TLJ is this guys trainer, and the only one with the woodland/tracking skills able to catch him. So this absurd and ridiculous manhunt ensues, where TLJ tracks Del Toro over half the US. Del Toro comes up with all sorts of ridiculous "escapes" and manages to evade TLJ. Eventually, while TLJ is hot on his heels, the action takes you to what looks like an old broken down hydro-power station, all overgrown, lots of waterfalls and rocky looking areas all around (nice scenery). Del Toro scales down this big pipe and finds himself in amongst a load of scrap metal. Bingo, a plan, having lost his weapons, "hey, I know, I'll forge a knife". Remember, TLJ is moments behind this guy, but Del Toro is a super Navy SEAL type, so forging a knife in 5 minutes flat should be no sweat for him - right?

OK, first find a bit of steel...hmmm, an old leaf spring, good (if rather convenient) choice...

Then we need fire, hang on a sec while I just knock up a quick hand drill & hearth...

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt002.jpg

Whew, that's not easy you know, especially with no tools, and look, a coal...

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt003.jpg

...a quick blow on the tinderball I made earlier...

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt004.jpg

Wahoooooo.... and over to the log pile that I found...

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt005.jpg

Bingo, a forge. Just pop that bit of old leaf spring in to warm her up a bit....

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt006.jpg

And then over to the anvil I made, for a good whaking with a big lump of metal I found (I hope Tommy is a slow runner, perhaps he's stopped off for a doughnut?)....

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt007.jpg

Comming together now, just a few indescriminate whaks here and there..

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt008.jpg

Then back into the forge to warm her up a bit more...

....[from above]

...and it's back to the old anvil for a bit more abuse, just whack it in the middle somewhere with this metal bar, that'll do it...

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt010.jpg

Not bad eh? Looking something like now. Time to quench it, hey, look at the form of this puppy...

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt011.jpg

ooohhhhhh, must be about 90 rockwell now...

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt012.jpg

Yeah, sweet...

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt013.jpg

Just gotta wrap the handle with some paracord that was lying around...

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt014.jpg

Now for the ABS test. Chuck it at something...

http://www.britishblades.com/pics/hunted/hunt015.jpg

Look Ma, I got it to stick...

Ohhh, better run now, here comes Tommy.

What a pile of tripe. Yeah, I know it's only a film, but suspension of disbelief was impossible. I'm not saying the above cant be done, in fact I know it can, but the time frame we're asked to believe is in, is absurd. TLJ is hot on this guys heels - we're asked to believe he does all this in about 5 mins - it's ridiculous. Just starting a fire with no tools, handmaking a hand drill and hearth set, could take you an age. Forging a knife like this would take another age. Del Torro would have had half the FBI and as many military around him, before he got to handle wrapping. Very silly really, and just one example of the numerous silly things we're asked to believe is possible from this film. I found myself shaking my head through most of it. Mildly entertaining at best.

They never did explain why those 'hunters' at the beginning had such spiffy scopes on their rifles either. I thought it was a rather glaring plot hole.

I'd hoped that one of us could recreate the knife, looks like you've volunteered, just make sure you get lots of pictures of you doing it, just like he does it in the film, it'll be great:D
