Hi All,
I'm looking for some pointers to mail order steel suppliers (of the sort of quantities that newbie knife makers will want - i.e. not much!).

And what is bound to be a dumb question - is EN1A steel the same as annealed '01'? or am I barking up completely the wrong tree?

many thanks

Matt

Matt, what you have there is mild steel & it's unlikely that you'll be able to work it into a knife;)

Try www.parkersteel.com they're near to me & where I get my tool steel (O1) from:)

Thanks Colin,
Good job I didn't try a piece of that then :) I've long forgotten the little I learned about steel grades (at school!).

I'll keep looking, now that I know what I should be aiming for (I can't seem to find any 01 on the parker steel site, but I guess there must be others).

cheers
Matt

Matt,

You could try www.,rswww.com, http://www.livesteammodels.co.uk/suppcat.html. or www.argentsteel.co.uk for larger quantities.

O1 is sometimes called guage plate or Ground Flat Stock

Try giving Alan Wood a call, he has been a great help to me and usually has 0-1 in stock. He can be hard to get hold of on the phone so his email is a.wood@knives.freeserve.co.uk

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys :)
Just ordered a piece from RS (I never knew they sold steel). Having said that, I think I'll receive my Trond blade before Christmas, so I'll have plenty to play with over the holiday!
