I’ve just had an e-mail from one of our American members, BurkStar, who has offered to donate a number of American customs for a pass around or two.

BurkStar is offering either : a Tom Mayo, a Rick Hinderer, a Jim Smyth or a Rob Simonich.
Given the nature of the knives I don’t feel that we could pass around more than one at a time, and even then the option of sending them insured would have to be a mandatory requirement.

What say the masses ?

Me personally I would like to experience the Tom Mayo, if only to see how my Buck Mayo stacks up against the real thing.

Thank’s for the offer BurkStar :biggthump

I think one knife at a time is the most sensible option, and I agree that insured delivery should be required. I would dearly love to see a Rob Simonich knife, but I would enjoy the opportunity to see any of these knives if the passaround goes ahead, and I commend BurkStar for his amazing generosity! :biggthump

Royal Mail Special Delivery offers insurance cover over and above the £250 standard for not a huge amount more money. IIRC it goes £500 then £1000 but I dont have any labels at home to check.

Sounds really good to me :biggthump what a flippin generous offer.

hey guys

this is a very generous offer and i would love to play with those knives (that is a hint me first :p )..

just a bit worried that we would be taking a huge responsibility... at least when it's a Bb passaround the forum owns it so if it gets trashed/lost/embedded in a hot dog tin :D 's not too bad.. with a 900 dollar mayo that is on loan.. :yikes:

sorry to be a downer

Great offer, I have a Rob Simonich Crowfoot already. I would love to try a Mayo knife, any variety would suffice.

It's a very valid point Ugug, and something that should be given serious consideration to by anyone thinking of taking part.
Take the Mayo, it's not just the replacement cost (which is very high), but it's the fact that you just can't get a replacement without a serious amount of luck.

Heck, I still get nervous with the Spyderco pass arounds :240:

Can't think what you mean about the hot dog tins though

Evening y'all, I'm glad to see some interest in my offer. Like I told Yog I've got a pretty extensive collection of customs and since I haven't seen too much evidence of American customs being talked about I figured y'all might enjoy the opportunity to try a couple. I've run some pass arounds on Blade Forums and have taken part in quite a few more, so I do have some experience with them. What I'd like to offer for the first one is one of the lower end knives without any sentimental attachment or major financial investment involved just to see if an oversea's pass around will work out to everyones satisfaction. This is not a matter of trust, as I think with the small size of y'all's forum there would be a minimal chance of personel problems. I'm looking more at shipping/customs and the associated costs. I'm at work right now but will post pictures and descriptions of some $200 - $400 customs that I'd be willing to put up for the first attempt at this. If all works out I'm definitely game to try a Mayo or my Simonich Pikuni.
