Hi Ug, if it was really thin, it may have been disposable plastic plate or students folder material, if a bit thicker, it would be vulcanised fibre material. I think Dennis at Brisa sells it;)

UgUg......

Not a red colour ...but..if you want to be different you could try using thin copper or brass or nickel sheel as a spacer......it looks really cool. :)

I got some fibre spacer sheets from Mercorne, in black, white, blue, and maybe red... It's buried deep in the bookcase somewhere.

I'm experimenting with chamois leather at the moment, fully impregnated with epoxy to bind it to steel inner scales and cow's horn outer scales on a multi-blade folder.

I switched from the fiber spacers to HT plastic spacer material http://www.texasknife.com/store/s-pages/TKS_MainframeStore.htm?TKS_6SpacerMaterials.htm~sm ain . I get it from Texas knifemaker, it's a bit more expensive than the fiber spacers but, I wanted to avoid any possible shrinking/swelling that, not often but, can happen with the fiber. Especially after spending hours of work on a knife.

I've been messing with rotted wood hardner for my fibre spacers, gotta keep 'em pressed flat & that's the problem, they stick to stuff & it's a bugger to get them off again without tearing them:mad:. It also darkens them a tad (not in tself a bad thing tho';)) I'll find the right method though:)

I think I mentioned this before somewhere else....If you can get hold of those colored plastic disposable party dinner plates then they make good spacer material as well......and dirt cheap!!

May I suggest... Silicone baking parchment from Lakeland as a possible candidate? I was looking for some PTFE sheet, but got distracted by the copper whipping bowl... ;)

RS do PTFE sheet, but.. :yikes:  £££
