This is one I just finished....influenced by you Scandinavian makers :)

10 cm distal taper blade with mortised buffalo horn handle. Because its mortised (the handle was cut length ways and the tang slot was milled out) the tang was left quite big.

Copper guard and copper and stainless Loveless bolt on the handle.....

Blade is 1095, fully hardened, with a flat grind blended into a shallow convex edge...not a typical Scandi style grind....but...I like to be different :D

Well I like it! Not very Scandinavian I suppose, well at least the guard, but the blade looks like some Scandinavian stuff I have :biggthump

That polished buffalo horn is a bit slick........the guard is definately needed as extra insurance :) ....Feels good in my hand.

Went and did some wood carving after the picks and made fir sticks etc etc...shaves very well.
I also managed to do several slices on an apple, sliced so thin that it was transluscent......

I like this one :D

Wel done Kevin :)
I guess the shape of the tappered blade, and the handle shape (ecxpet the guard) is scandinavian. So you are right to call it scandinavian influenced:D
However the scandi knife is supposed to have laminated 3 layer blade (not all though mind you) Also the buffalo horn material is not scandinavian type, (although there are some newer knives with that material) Wooden handle is most common.
I like it too, cant be easy to make the sheath for it though, do you have a pic of the sheath to?

I have to agree with Trond about the shaft material mate, but don't let it detract from the fact tht that is a great looking knife. i like the way the forge finish is slightly visible.

the only critisism I would have is that the grind is so high, personally I'd have like to see more forge finish and less polished grind, but het horses for courses and opinions vary.

Maybe we'll have to talk on day ;)

The knife looks good, if it feels good all the better (more important) but while I am certainly not the final authority :D it does not look like any scandinavian (traditional knife) I know.

Thanks.
....it was never meant to be a copy of a traditional knife design :) ................ I like to be different. :)
