Guys.

Does anyone have any thoughts of a venue where a class could be held for a bladesmith course or 'hammer in' where enough tools, hammers, anvils , forges etc would be available?

Lets say there were a minimum of 6 students....and work around that....ideally 6 of everything and room to move around...but more would be better.

Any ideas....college workshops? (Jon, whats your college like?).

If not in the UK..what about somewhere else in Europe?

IF a good enough venue could be found with proper facilities then it could be possible to hold an ABS style workshop/class.

Kevin, there are colleges where blacksmithing is taught. Some might be willing to open up the facilities for a weekend hammer-in, especialy if one of the tutors is interested ....

The colege at Hereford has at least three dozen forges under one roof! That might not be ideal though. Somewhere like Pershore college perhaps...

Hmm ... then there's West Dean College near Chichester. They have blacksmithing courses but not all the time. I wonder whether it might be possible to get something going there ...

Here in France, quite a few smiths run training courses... Pierre reverdy, Chrsitian Avakian, and others...

Or you might try the Belgian Knife Society.

A few things I found out if anyones is interested in pursuing any future hammerins or bladesmithing classes (ABS or otherwise).

A John Bellamy is starting his own forging workshop near Exeter in Devon that can be hired for demonstrations and classes in the art of blacksmithing...include bladesmithing in this if you can find an instructor...tel 10626 890503...should be ready by May.

I also found this link.....Lots of opportunities for venues if anyone wanted to organise something, and maybe get ABS involvement?http://www.baba.org.uk/educatio.htm

I'll have to ask, but Richard might be up for something similar. It isn't his normal bag, but he might be amenable.
