Is this your work juha?
Are there added air to those burners?
have you got any experience with forging blades in a gas forge?

Interesting....

Castable refractory or fibre?
More details on the burners too, please!

No, trond, I still have my little "one brick forge". :biggthump
This was made by a Finn hobbymaker. We were talking how to make cheap gas forge and I gave few ideas and one guy went and made one based on my comments. It turned out quite good and the guy is really happy with it. :D
There is no added air, just BIG butane or propane torch on the side of the box. Maker/owner said that the temperature is after 15 min of heating 1190 celcius. He said that it goes 1150 just in few minutes. :biggthump :biggthump

I sometimes forge with my little "OBF" but since I'm a "draw filer" I use it more for HT. I shall make one bigger forge for myself when I get more time but it looks like that I have to wait a bit again. :(

The idea is that you have two tubes and between the tubes you cast refractory sement. This way the cavern is round and the flame gets to roll inside better. Just want to add that the side hole, where the burner is, is bit off from centreline. This of cource adds the rollement of the flame.
Then you make a box for it and insulate the best you can.
Burner is just a big torch and there are no ventilators pushing more air in to the cavern.
The idea was taken from Goddards book, 50$ knifeshop, just bit bigger scale.
