View Full Version : removing rust 2
i have an old machete that i got from someone at work for free and it's slightly rusty :yikes:. i've tryed the electrical rust removal process in the previous "rust removal" thread on smaller items but this knife is too big for any container that i have half the blade would be left out of the solution and i dont realy want to remove the handle or use a grinder or wire wheel to brush the rust off.
so could anyone recomend a process or product

And plenty of that stuff my grandad used to go on about.......elbow grease :banghead:
The guy used to have me mow his lawn then go around on my hands and knees with a pair old sissors cutting off the storks that the mower would not cut.....talk about slave labour :twak:
Try a stiff wire brush and WD40...... will get the surface stuff off.
I wouldnt even try to get it down to shiny metal though...would ruin the look....IMO :)

Maybe try some PVC pipe, go to a building site. Usually there is some pipe long enough for your machete lying on the ground or in a skip nearby.
To accomodate the curve up at the end you could flatten the pipe with a bit of heat.
thanks for the sudgestions i shall try pvc pipe or get a 30 gallon water tank. and as for the elbow grease i have very little of that
