Itinerary for the BB and Spyderco weekend!
One or two people have asked for details about the forthcoming event so I hope that this helps.:)

Saturday 3rd Feb 2007

I have hired the upstairs room (very grotty to be honest) in the Cardigan Arms on Kirkstall Road in Leeds. We are limited to 50 people! The room will be available from 12.00 noon until 17.00. The Sheesh Mahal is next door virtually and for those not happy with Indian cuisine there are many more food outlets very close by. A cinema and bowling alley as well as a selection of drinking houses are also within a hundred yards of the Cardigan Arms.

From the city centre……….

A taxi can be hired from the city centre an will cost about £4.00 (Ask for the Cardigan Arms on Kirkstall Road).

Sunday 4th Feb 2007 Spyderco “Mini Show”

At the Royal Armouries in Leeds from 12.00 onwards in the Theatre of War. Sal Glesser and the team will be showing us some of their latest designs. Ed Schempp will be sharing his vast knowledge of cutting competition knives. The room holds 117 so we still have space for more attendees! I am planning a coffee/tea break at 14.30
We have the room until 17.00 when the Museum closes.

After a swift pint or two at the Cardigan Arms......or where ever you prefer, we are having a curry (if your name is down) at the Sheesh Mahal, starting at 19.00. Last year it worked out at about £14.00 a head.

The Museum opens at 10.00 and entry is free! If anyone wants to get down there early for a look around, it is well worth it. The Armouries is well sign posted which ever direction you approach it.

I am looking forward to seeing you all there! :D

Cheers, Ken

Google earth shows the actual building and you can overlay the street names

can you print ?

Stan
26-01-07, 06:46 PM
Yes, you can print it. If you haven’t tried it, its well worth playing with. Once you have downloaded it, type in a postcode and it zooms down to it.

Knife-Man
26-01-07, 06:48 PM
Ive just downloaded it Started as soon as you suggested it :D

Ive got the same problem though I cant get everything I need onto one map while still being able to read street names.

Id need about 5 maps

Stan
26-01-07, 06:59 PM
Yes, that’s a problem. When you get used to it, there’s a setting that allows you to use it like a flight simulator [ctl g] (3D Viewer Navigation). I use this setting to familiarise myself with a route.

I will be arriving at Leeds station at between 1pm and 2pm... I am aiming to try for a 1PM arrival, but my train ticket greatly limits when I can travel so it might be 2pm if they get wound up!

How far is the pub frm the station?

The General

Friends

One or two things I feel I should mention.

Please refrain from whipping out yer weapons anywhere other than in the allocated room in the Cardigan Arms! :O

Last year one or two knives were being shown outside the armouries. Please wait until we are inside the Theatre of War before being tempted to get 'em out. From the outset Sunday at the Armouries has been both financed and organised by Spyderco. The Spyderco "mini show" is the reason for us being there, not to trade or show knives though there might be some "Spare Time" (where the Spyderco team are not requiring our full attention) when we are able to show some of our own knives.

A number of people are meeting at the Cardigan Arms (a ten minute drive away from the Armouries) again on Sunday between 17.00 and 19.00 all are welcome.

Cheers, Ken

There has been a change to the room we are using at the Armouries.

We are now in the Wellington Suite not the Theatre of War! :) It is larger, lighter and I am trying to get access to it for an hour before the Spyderco Show begins. :)

It is on the first floor of the Armouries and will (I am assured) suit our purposes better. :D

As you know, the new job started this week and the last thing I want is not to be able to make it back home for Monday morning and the start of the second week. I'm led to believe that the Police Training Staff and the force in general take a very dim view of this.

So, it is with great regrets that I have had to make the decision that I will NOT be attending!

You will all know, as the dyed in the wool Spydie collector I am, I can't risk it. Not when 240 miles away! My warmest wishes to you all and hope you have a great day!

Convince Sal and the crew to come back next year!!!

I dont wish to be a party popper but you really dont need a map - you'll get lost anyway! I'm only from Sheffield and there is something about Leeds that makes me get lost EVERYTIME I go! In fact the only thing I can ever find is the Armouries 'cos its so well signposted! So you only need the map from there to the pub (and if it's anything like last year - we ended up back at the armouries three times before we found the pub!)

I was going to drive to the Armouries, park the car (hopefully at the Holiday Inn discounted rate) and then walk or get a taxi to the pub.

Perhaps Ken can give us some local Taxi numbers we could use please?

Thanks
