i have a ww2 officers sword.

made march 45. did get the makers name and where it was made, which is on the tang, translated but cant find it at mo.

anyway it has spent 40 yrs in a garden shed until it was given to my wife 10 yrs ago.

could do with a polish and a bit of a restore.

anyone got any recommendations?

have thought about doing it myself but would rather have someone who knows what they are doing sort it out.

Sound like a great thing to have!
But i think you are right, get a pro to clean it up for you.
Any pics? It would give people an indication to its state.
It might just be marks with age, which should be left.

Pics would tell us if it is mass produced low quality, or for your sake, something special that needs a little TLC...

I have made and restored many swords... For a long while my company and I (at the time I had two lads working with me) produced sword blades for some very esteemed customers... Ther are a couple here www.patmitchell.com (http://www.patmitchell.com)

I would like to see the extent of the corosion but I'm sure I could sort it :)

Is it a full refurb you are after?

Is the blade engraved? If the rust is bad, you will lose this!

tangs engraved with the date, makers name and where it was made.

how it was explained to me was that sword makers were in sort of divisions, the best at the top and so on.

told the my maker was 2nd division and that where it was made was the japanese equivilent of sheffield.

most of the corrsion on the blade is from handling, you can clearly see peoples fingerprints on it.

there are no serial numbers and it is not one of the mass produced nco swords.
think it was valued about £150 a while ago.
