Ok guys i asked sal if i could redesign the packaging for the ronin knife for my final major project at college, sal agreed to the project so, I started I had to do 60 hours research on Filipino arts, the spetnaz, well my research was marked and I got a Merit yay!!!! So now on to the designing though looking at the packaging there was no real branding for the knife so I decided to design a logo I started to do quick thumbnails using the shape of the knife blade but I thought these where to literal so I decided to do some experimental calligraphy I filled 20 sheets of A2 with "R" with influences from various calligraphy books. I used tools such as pieces of sheet metal, scalpels, automatic pens, poster dip pens, to create the "R” after finishing this I put on a group presentation where I explained what I had done and asked them to pick out which one they liked best after they had chosen I went to work on designing the actual logo. Here is the R http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/jbaron/perfectR.jpg I tried "onin" with the "R" but this did not work so I thought of using the word "ronin" with the "R" http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/jbaron/des.jpg but through design I thought the "R" looked although it was floating so I had to in some way capture it in a holding device I first looked at using a square to hold the "R" http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/jbaron/des.jpg but it looked like the "R" was floating in the square so I looked at having the "R" coming out of the square but then I design the one on the bottom left I think it really holds the "R" well but I thought that text positions needed to be better so I designed various text positions http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/jbaron/des3.jpg
Starting to get better

After choosing the text position I looked colour in the design http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/jbaron/des4.jpg
I think that black looked best so I went with that, then I looked at different typefaces such as century gothic, Helvetica, Arial, and Gill sans http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/jbaron/des5.jpg
I went with the typeface gill sans light because I think it really fits in well with the design.

Very good work Jon!

I like the Logo immensely, shame the knife is horrible! I can see an interesting little sideline in specialist logo work starting for you; do you do etching?
