WP7280 - Jarrah Burr - £4.50 - Postgroup 1 Sold
http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7280_100x88.jpg (http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7280.jpg)
L: 115mm
W: 47mm
D: 12mm >> 9mm
From a particularly solid piece of Jarrah Burr. Usually they have many more space-inclusions in them. The tang side of one of the blanks has quite deep ripple marks from the saw that was used to slice up the burr prior to shipment to the UK. The minimum depth of the blank in the furrows is about 9mm. This pair of scales would suit somone who has a power sander, and who is looking for a slimmer handle.

L: 140mm
W: 50mm
D: c10mm
Beautiful heavy, dense wood that takes a good finish and always has ‘weight’ to it. One of my favourite woods to turn, starting out a rich purpley-brown, and ageing to a rich red-purple brown. This set has beautiful colour contrast to it between the sap and heartwood. Even the sapwood is really solid!

WP7244 - Spalted Sycamore - £3.50 - postgroup 1 No longer available

L: 118mm
W: 59mm
D: 10mm
Beautiful solid wood. No soft patches despite the advanced spalting. Quality piece of timber.

WP7252 - Beautiful Burr Oak - £4.00 - postgroup 1 Sold

L: 110mm
W: 45mm
D: 10mm - SEE BELOW
I cut and dried this pair of scales from a locally grown oak. Lovely lovely patterning, but with a little bit of movement as it dried. Anyone with a power sander can flatten these to get scales that are around 8mm thick. Lovely wood - here is a photo I include when I am selling this burr to show what it looks like when turned, sanded and then given one layer of wax:

WP7314 - Coolibah Burr - £6.00 - postgroup 1 Sold
http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7314_100x100.jpg (http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7314_400x400.jpg)
L: 120mm >> 88mm
W: 52mm >> 27mm
D: 9mm
Comes from Australia. This burr is a gorgeous pink, and shows the most beuaitful delicate small eyes. The full width before the bark dip begins is 88mm long.

WP7210 - Spalted African Beli Wood - £4.00 - postgroup 1 No longer available
http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7210_100x100.jpg (http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7210_400x400.jpg)
L: 138mm
W: 45mm
D: 10mm
Half and half sap and heartwood. The African relative to Mexican Bocote. Slightly softer to work, but with beautiful contrasting grain like a loosely figured zebrano. Takes a nice finish, polished well, and the spalted section comes complete with African worm holes (no protein included here - sorry!). These can be filled with some superglue, and in my opinion - give character, but then maybe I’m just wierd.
*
WP7315 - Spalted Beech - £3.00 - postgroup 1 Sold
http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7315_100x100.jpg (http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7315_400x400.jpg)
L: 137mm
W: 48mm
D: 10mm
Spectacular colours in this pair of scales. Lovely, lovely wood.

WP7217 - Pau Rosa - £4.00 - postgroup 1 No longer available
http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7217_100x100.jpg (http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7217_400x400.jpg)
L: 140mm
W: 53mm
D: 11mm
The colour of mature Pau Rosa makes my heart sing with gladness. I find myself humming when I work with it. It is a gorgeous, dense, heavy wood that turns beautifully, burnishes with a rich gleam, polishes with a glow and deepens to a rich burgundy on exposure to light - all in all one of those woods that makes me sigh with pleasure.

WP7212 - Yew - £4.00 - postgroup 1 Sold
http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7212_100x100.jpg (http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7212_400x400.jpg)
L: 155mm >> 140mm see note
W: 50mm >> 35mm
D: 10mm >>
Very nice pattern on this piece of wood. The shape is complicated slightly by the fact that the edge of the log comes round on the tang side of one of the scales slightly. Careful planning will result in a most spectacular handle made with this pair of scales. A well-seasoned stable piece of closely grained top quality yew.
*
WP7261 - Brown Mallee Burr - £6.50 - postgroup 1 Sold
http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7261_100x88.jpg (http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7261.jpg)
L: 117mm >> 95mm see note
W: 48mm >> 36mm see note
D: 10mm
A very nicely patterned piece of mallee burr. On the tang side on one of the scales, there is a small traingle of bark inclusion. The length of the widest section is 95mm With judicious application of superglue right on the edge, this can be extended to 110mm on the very edge. Likewise the application of superglue to stabilise the bark section would increase smallest width to 41mm. Total triangle about 1cmSq. Very stable - airdried for nearly 6 years in my workshop.

WP7218 - Premium Rose-coloured Lacewood - £5.00 - postgroup 1 No longer available

L: 140mm
W: 50mm
D: 10+mm
Through figured, with small, but perfectly defined patterning, perfected by a natural rosy pink tone. Lovely!

WP7317 - Pale Yew - £3.50 - postgroup 2 Sold
http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7317_100x100.jpg (http://www.jeanturner.co.uk/bbimages/wp7317_400x400.jpg)
L: 135mm
W: 52m >> 42mm see note
D: 10mm
This is a large pair of scales. The dark line on the face is the pith line with the centre of the log running almost halfway through the depth of one side. That scale has a crack forming along this pith line, giving the whole scale blank a useable width of 52mm >> 42mm (as shown above). I have left the outside section of the blank on, because this shows the best colouration in the wood, and could be used as a freebie set of scales for making a slimmer, very lovely looking handle. Basically - two for the price of one!
That’s it for today - thanks for looking!
Yes - I DO have other woods, and yes - I CAN cut to size.
Jean
