There should be a game dealer in Bristol, undressed rabbits are cheap as can be.

The big problem is finding anyone that sells them now :(
I was talking to our local butcher and he said that H&S rules had virtually made it impossible for him to sell anything with fur or feathers still attached.
The land I shoot over has gone very very quiet over the last week - I went out on Sunday and only saw four rabbits all evening, and they were too far away to even consider shooting.
The news from the farmers is that Mixy is back, but I didnt think it would have an effect this quick:(

Mmmm. I hadn't seen many for years, then two in the last fortnight on my usual stroll. Very unpleasant...
thats what i'm getting at the mo, locals dont have any ans the shoots are off for some reason. maybe the fields are flooded, maybe the warrans are flooded so havnt bred well? my butcher told me to go to the pet shop! but hey were a tenner each!!! no butchers seem to sell feather or fur only flesh.

Snare your own, it's not difficult and if you set enough in the right spots you'll pick one or two up...

Its not the floods. In just one of the fields I shoot over, I counted over 80 rabbits on one trip. That was three weeks ago.
I know my shooting is ok, but I'm not that good :D
Actually, it is terrible that this plague is back :(
Edit: Its not the floods themselves that have caused the problem, but the damp conditions have led to an increase in mozzies and fleas which transmit it. Times (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article2332403.ece)

i didn't think you were allowed to snare ?
Rabbit numbers in the UK are at 1950's levels, i.e. the highest ever, 6-7 million.
Usual time of year for mixi to strike is now, flea's carrying the disease are about this time of year and this is how its spread. If you can't get hold of rabbit, there's probably a good chance mixi is in your area. Mine hasn't been hit so far, but my gamekeeper buddy has a feeling its about to strike.
Got a freezer full of bunnies and woodies!

If my local game dealer is right its the EU we have to thank but they aren't allowed to sell any game in fur or feather. He has sold me a few carrier bags for a quid with a free rabbit in them though;)

You have to be joking guys since when can game dealers not sell rabbits with fur on? I honestly haven't heard anything about that.
Have a look on http://www.bigbarn.co.uk you should find a game dealer near you and give them a ring. At the end of the day if it has to be a skinned rabbit it will taste just as good as one you have to skin yourself.

Snaring is still perfectly legal provided you use a snare which does not tighten around the neck causing death by stangulation. Most of the shop bought ones you'll find a small brass ring on the end which the runner end of the wire passes thru, when a rabbit hits the snare it tightens around the neck but does not lock, this means that when you recover the rabbit after having checked your snare within a 24hr period ( by law!) the animal is still alive and you have to finish the job by yourself, but that's easy and painless.
