View Full Version : Waynes blade
When we were at Doc`s hammerin, wayne forged this blade, his first :biggthump
It is wrought iron with a o1 core, so everybody, waynes first blade is a SAN MAI :yikes:
I have had it in feriic to get the pattern visible. It is a drop point and it is 10 cm long and 3,1 cm wide.
Not bad for a first attempt me thinks :D

As it is Waynes it MUST be at least 350mm long.............which makes it about 120mm wide!
:yikes:
Good work Generalissimo!

Thanks guys! With Trond on hand helping and guiding me I think anyone would have had a reasonable result (with such a great teacher)! However even I am surprised it came out ok, knifemaking is a lot harder than even I thought...
It was nice to work with Steens San Mai! ;) At least I think it was Steens San Mai that he made for the demo as Trond waved it at him as I started and seemed to enjoy a joke about something! Probably as Steen had a project in mind for this steel and Trond found a better one! :biggthump
My respect for knife makers has risen even further after having a go!
Wonderful experience all round, once you smell that smell of burning steel and feel the heat of the heart of the furnice and see the sparks fly... Its like heavy metal poetry in motion. All it needed was Metallica's enter sandman playing while I worked and I would have been in heaven! :thanks:
yup Steen had plans for it, but i must stress that it was wayne that forge welded the package, steen had made the package ready for welding.
here is the blade with handle
now only the sheath left.

Awesome, well done Wayne, great handle job too Trond. ;)
Now that Trond is using other people's blades, can we still call him a knifemaker? :dunno:
:lmao: :flipa:

Oh wel, better be off to try and make some blades, so i can restore my knifemaker title :p

Wait till you see the mosaic damascus blade I got from Trond at Doc's... Knifemaker? Heavy metal master more like! :biggthump
Errrr Wayne? it is not a mosaic damascus;) Just plain ol` damascus :D
I am glad you like it though :)
And here it is in the sheath :) The mess around the pauting is not really there, it is something in the picture that is not really on the sheath

Fabulous!
Hey Wayne, will you be bringing this to the BCUK meetup?
Very, very nice Trond & Wayne :)
Lovely colour combination where you also have managed to make it within the "golden rule of a scandi" - Blade, handle and sheath -.
