Hi...

Wondering: Do you know this knife?: http://www.westhood.no/Kniver/samekniv/img/310231_400.gif
It is made by a Norwegian company called 'Knivsmed Strømeng'
Made of carbonsteel, 22 degree sharpened, 9'' long blade and 3 mm. thickness... Anyone tried it/know something about them?

It looks like what sami people in sweden would call "huggare". Whitch is the sami equvalent to a machete.
I have a knife made my Strømeng, it's a smaller one though. That knife has a good sheath, high carbon blade but the blade is badly fitted to the handle. However I think that my knife is a bad example. The knife in the picture looks sort of good. It all comes down to what you should pay for it.

Jepp, got one of these, - 9'' which I bought many years ago. ;) Guess many norwegians are familiar with these knifes from the army. :noggin:

It's a "Leuku" or in Saami "Stuorra Niibas". Smaller one (that can be called Puukko) is called "Unna Niibas".
Leuku is an exelent tool for self defence, chopping bones for marrow, chopping frozen meat...the list is endles. It is quite poor for whittig and small tasks because of it's size and blade geometry.

It looks very much like J.Marttiini's Leukus but I dont know this Noggin company.
