Hi folks
I have made a couple of comments recently suggesting that Benchmade has some superior finishing to Spyderco, based on their latest AXIS locks, at the top end. Which have phospored bronze washers, not brass as I suggested, which tells me that I'm a pompous eejit and you lot not to try and be too clever. I'll do it for you. And Sal knows that, but is too much of a gentleman to call me a d**khead. I still stand by some of the comments and you will need a a very long pole to pry me away from AXIS locks.
:noggin:
But sometimes a new infatuation is overtaken by seeing your old flame in a glittering silver dress and silver heels.
:yikes:
And in that vein I took possession today of a knife that I never thought I would even see for real, let alone have as my very own. Thank you Ken.
The almost legendary Spyderco Native, Stainless steel scales, Plain Edge.
:approve:
And it is absolutely beautiful. Truly totally beautiful. This is the perfect large gentlemans folder. I'm a large gentleman, so I know. It is a superbly well made knife. It's built around an AUS 10 blade from Seki which is razor sharp but it is the overall fit and finish of the whole thing which is so perfect. From the stainless steel scales which reflect the blade polish to a lovely engraved Spyderbug on the matching clip. It is incredibly slim; 5mm at the widest. It feels smooth and usable in the hand yet it reminds me of my Dads old cigar cutters. Maybe you needed to have been around cigars in the 1970s to appreciate that. Or my Dads collection of cutters, but that is a good thing.
The lock is absolutely solid, the opening click is almost musical. I'm not being overly poetic, it does actually ring with a bell tone when opened. Sometimes.
You couldn't get an AXIS lock in this knife. But you wouldn't want too. It is a perfect lockback.
Thank you Sal. Firstly for making this knife and secondly for being polite when you could have been otherwise.
