It looks like one of those little jewellers anvils.

It is indeed. From Cousins Tool Centre in Birmingham's Jewelery Quarter. Cost just under £9.

S'cute.

Mind you, I think my new little anvil is cute, too... At 3/4cwt, that's practically a laptop anvil?

Birmingham in the West Midlands, or Birmingham, Alabama?

KKK.

The former (and more accessible) of the two

This is only tiny by comparison. It's meant for bashing gold rings on.

Your track will make a better anvil than the cast iron anvils offered there... Could do with being a bit heavier, but you can always weld some scrap on the web to build it up.

Good prices on the hammers, mind - but I'm not a fan of fibreglass shafts in that environment.

Having spent some of Saturday afternoon pratting about with building a stand for the new anvil, lugging the thing all over the place, I went and wrenched my back on Sunday picking up a propane cylinder. An *empty* propane cylinder.

track is great if you can get it its a bit small but i not making halberds.

what wrong with the anvils? will they end up as small bits on my floor?

its not how much you lift its how you lift it (I used to be a weight lifting instructor)

Were you lifing anvils like this?

Cast iron anvils are mentioned here -
http://www.anvilfire.com/FAQs/ - look under anvil selection ;)

The anvil I could pick up properly (both hands, lifted with the legs, back straight), whilst the propane cylinder had to be lifted out of a tub. Off balance, unable to keep my back straight etc. etc. - i.e. everything wrong. Almost as much fun as picking dive cylinders out of the bath.
