isn't it amazing that O1 can cut O1? ..... I made a Sen today out of an off cut of O1 ..... water quenched, untempered ..... shaves unhardened O1

I've had no joy with my sen to date. Dunno if it is my technique or what...

what I found was ... because of the size of the tool ..... f'narr ...... heating it to red wasn't enough ..... it had cooled too much by the time I got it to quench and wasn't cutting ..... it's a small tool ..... f'narr .......and must have lost the heat ..... so I took it a bit hotter and it is cutting fine

OK... As far as I know, a sen is basically a drawknife with a 70-80 degree cutting edge, full hardened and not drawn.
Anyone got any elaborations on that? Like is it supposed to be used bevel up or down?

I made mine for cutting in a Bo-hi ..... it's about a 75 degree edge ... pulled towards me with the flat side facing me ..... it's just an off cut of O1 ... with a copper guide .. it's damn hard because I was able to drill a hole about 1 and a half inch from the cutting edge with a cobalt bit, but I tried drilling half an inch down from that and the bit was just skating
