Let's say I wanted to make a laminate stack for carving. I'm using cow's horn and bone in thin (2mm) layers and the carving will cut through the layers mokume-style.

I'm looking for the best glue for the job. I'm currently using cyanoacrylate (sp?) because I believe epoxy requires a thicker layer to be effective.

Is this the right approach? Any one have any tips as to how to make a decent bond?

If you use epoxy you can "Water" it with bit of acetone. I use sometimes Loctite's "crystalline" epoxy that is made for glas, porseline and such it glues steel too. It is quite thin and transparent when dry. You dont need a thick layer of it.

Good thin cyanoacrylate works with capilar efect, stack your bone laminates and applie the glue, then press.

What's a gule? :p

I think that you'll find the cyano a litle brittle .. there are better epoxies (although in HK? :dunno: ) than you can buy in DIY shops ..... I'd use, and have used for stacked handles either industrial epoxy or Gorrilla glue ... but with the gorilla glue you have to make sure both surfaces are keyed and meet perfectly ... and clamped up real tight.
