All the materials for this knife were blagged during a quick mooch around the local scrappie.

Blade; old file.
Handle slabs; Tufnol insulator blocks from old electrical switchgear.
Bolsters; brass terminal blocks, same as above.
Handle pins; brass float arm from old toilet cystern.
Bolster pins; welding rod stubs.

The knife is nothing fantastic, but I thought you might be amused by the choice of materials. :D

Great knife! The Tufnoll looks really pratical.
How did you deal with the file? Just grind or anneal, grind, HT, sharpen?

Thanks for the positive comment!

The tufnol is a suprisingly good material for handles. It does not show in my cr@p photo, but it takes a beautiful polish and has a sort of woodgrain pattern from the layers of whatever its made from. (Paper I think)

The blade went something like; anneal, grind, HT, realise I have forgot to drill the holes for the handle pins, anneal, drill, HT, sharpen.

This is a great knife! I really like the fact that it is all salvaged materials. An awesome knife and all it cost was a little time. good job!!

Well done. It seems very usable as well.

To me, this has a LOT of character and personality, and already has some history attached to it (the materials used)......that seperates it from a lot of other knives....

Apart from what you have told us about it, its a great looking knife anyway.

Nice work, and well done with your reuse / recycling, a few less things ending up as waste can only be good!
