View Full Version : F1 Sheaths-universally rubbish?

I recently got a Fallkniven F1 Micarta which is such a stunning knife. Beautiful, but so well designed it makes me want to use it-which is nice.
But the sheaths are of good manufacture but rubbish design.
The plastic one doesn't 'click' in like a decent Kydex model. It remains loose unless you reverse the way you would normally insert a blade into a right handed shreath ie sharp edge forward-unless it was specifically designed to be cross draw? I doubt it somehow.
The nylon belt hanger has a simple snap which does secure the handle but has an exposed snap which will scratch up the handle in no time.
Next is the fold over leather holster type-exposed scratchy snap again-it does protect the whole knife but resheathing is a 2 handed job with something as cowhide cutting as a laminated edge!
Lastly the famous out of production 'dangler' sheath.
A new one arrived today and with one firm seat of the F1 the tip came through the bottom stitching!
Bugger.
There is no shaping of the throat of the scabbard-which would hold the knife in place by the guard-it just lets the whole blade seat so far down the tip pierces the stitching.
I had no such issues with the Woodlore Micarta I used to have and my other fixed blade-a Spyderco Perrin has an efficient, if slightly too large, Kydex sheath.
Solutions anyone or am I missing something? A practical maker like Fallkniven should make something decent but has failed 3 times!
I'm thinking a black leather Woodlore or a Kydex-anyone got piccies of alternatives?
Anyone want some F1 sheaths:rolleyes:
I bought a dangler sheath but used it for a custom knife of my wife's that was sheathless.
Perfect job.
My F1 came with a Mojo kydex sheath.

Mines in a U1 dangler and Touch wood its been great, although the knife doesnt get used to much, not enough of a guard for my liking.

I have made more sheaths for the Fallkniven F1 than any other knife , IMO the standrad sheaths really let their knives down especially when you see what they sell with FKNL5CX :C

The carbon V master hunter is a better knife then the F1, fact! ;)

Sorry to hear of your woes with the sheath :(
The reason I let the sheath go is I am a leftie and neither was much use to me and I was going to use the pouch sheath on my micarta F1 until I had funds for a bespoke Rapidboy model, which I think would be hard to beat.
That said I quite like that one mojo had made for him :P :P :P :D :D :D :D

Mmm
Mojofilter we must meet-I feel the need for kydex as we discussed ages ago for the Perrin and now the F1.
I'd like to see the Rapidboy one as well Rapidboy!
Beachlover-not your fault-I blame the Swedish penchant for poor leatherwork!
Didye get my PM?

Sorry mate, just couldn't help myself ;)
Seriously nice work. Love my Kydex UKPK sheath from you and if I had a standard F1 I'd be up for your kydex for that too.
I just have a thing for black micarta and leather :rolleye11

OK Mojo, I'll bite.... ;) It depends on what you're looking to do with the thing. I have both the F1 and the CS MH (Carbon V and San Mai) and whilst the CS MH is a damned good knife that I'm happy to use for a variety of jobs it's not such a good tool as the F1 when it comes to dealing with a muntjack. The blade is too wide for the 'cornhole cut' in my opinion, but the F1 wiggles round in there nicely ;)
I don't have to worry unduly about leaving the F1 covered in gore for a day or two if I forget to clean it after doing the job either.

I've got one of the closed leather sheaths and I'm quite happy with it. I've got no experience with Fallkniven's synthetic sheaths, though.

BLASPHEMY! BURN THE WITCH! ;)
Serious now. I have the older kydex sheath for the F1. I like it much better than the current zytel ones. As for the closed sheath that came with my F1 micarta, it looks very well made. Haven't used it yet. Ideal would be someting like the NL5cX Idun sheath.
Kind regards,
Jos

Only Fallkniven sheath i use is a kydex belt sheath for a WM1, i removed the belt loop and fitted a small teklok, grand wee sheath now.
To be honest it's the only Fallkniven i really use, i find all the other much too thick.

Cant agree more i use the WM1 in a kydex sheath. The other Fallknivens are v thick.
When i had a Micarta F1 i used one of Lawrence's lovely sheaths.I kept it for a while in case it fitted a shing bushy that Neill is handling for me,but it don't:( .
Topknot sheath for mine, although I have seen one of RBs' sheaths, The Ratbag has one and he uses it primarily for his H1 now. Fits perfectly still.

Not just F1. I had the same problem with the A1 kydex sheath, flippin' horrible so I made my own:

Found a wee pic of the WM1 kydex belt sheath i modded.

I used to carry this on the strap of my rucksack and then when i set the pack down i'd slip the knife into a Fallkniven kydex neck sheath.
The sheath for the Thor I breifly owned had a sheath that looked like it was made from the hide of Umpa Lumpas.
My mates sheath was a bit looser fit then mine (which has got cut up a bit). Wish I'd swapped the sheaths when I sold his for him (it went to someone who didn't use it). The popper lost it's coating but other then that I don't think it's that bad. For a £60 knife you can't expect the same as you'd get from a custom maker, £30 worth of sheath is fine on a £200-£250 package.
Compared the the trouble BRKT had a couple of years ago it's not bad at all.
