new member here.
have been reading posts for a few days and already learnt alot. i'm currently working on finishing my first knife although it's cheeky to say i made it as it used to be a military type d survival knife i bought rusty from a second hand shop. i re-shaped it into a bowie and completely changed the handle a long while ago and had occasion to use it almost full-time for a few weeks not long after i'd done it.it performed very well but i rather stupidly put a sharp clip on and it made skinning a tricky thing.anyway several years down the line and a lot more tools richer i decided to do a proper job of it and while researching i found this most informative website and when i do a knife from start to finish(i already have the steel thanks to a link on here :) ) i will try to post pictures and open myself to your remarks. keep up the good work

i need help! some advice too :) i've got some o-1 i'm going to use and todayi thought i'd see how easily i could heat metal in a barbecue with charcoal and a hairdryer(the wife's-i'm a shaven slap head :rotfl: ) i'm pretty sure it got read hot but it was outside in daylight. any way i want some basic advice re procedure and equipment for doing this.for instance avoiding hot spots;i buried it under charcoal and it got hotter where it touched. please assist this novice

Sounds as though you are having fun. Sorry I can't help you but there are a lot of black belts (more ways than one) in this forum. Good luck and look forward to seeing the finished knife.
