Buck Strider Knives - Whats the story?

Was having a window shop through Ebay and came across a couple of Buck Strider knives. Look similar to the Strider folders but at remarkably reasonable prices. My question is:

Are they any good, does anyone have any first hand experience of them and would you recommend one?

buck are great knives, have a couple , and you can't fault the workmanship and finish.........if that helps.

Thanks for that, how would you rate them against an equivalent priced Spyderco? Is the steel comparable?

Buck Striders are a collaboration - they are Strider designs but made by Buck.

They are a pretty good way of getting a Strider without paying strider prices. They are pretty well made, and I think that most of the heat treating was done by Paul Bos

The Buck/Striders are collaboration pieces between the two companies. With H/T by Paul Boss I don't think you could expect the steel to perform much better whatever steel it is or whoever made the blade.
I have the Buck/Strider 880SP and it's a beast of a tool. I didn't like the factory edge geometry at all. It came with a very steeply angled secondary (edge) bevel, but a seesion with the DMT's soon saw that changed to a shallower convex edge ;) It's still not a slicer due to the overall thicknes of the blade and the angle of the primary grind, but it's a hell of a work-horse, and despite the number of alternatives I own It's my normal carry for work around the farm I work on, if for no other reason than it's something I don't think I'm ever likely to wear out or break despite the abuse it gets around here.
On first seeing it a knifey mate of mine had a wonderfully accurate description of it "Blow me! (polite version ;) ) That's not a knife, it's a ruddy tank with an edge on it!"

Not a knife I'd carry for bushcrafting, skinning, or any other job requiring any degree of delicacy or precision, but a seriously strong sharp thing that I'm not afraid to "give some stick" to.

I think Mick Strider and Buck had a falling out so are no longer produced but i could be wrong

A bit of surfing has found that they are indeed discontinued. May have to take the plunge, just waiting on a shipping quote.

I'm not a fan of strider but I do like my Bucks. Here is a link to a supplier I use quite often. I got my little Buck Koji from them. A good price for not having to deal with fleabay.

To my knowledge, only the ATS34 Buck Strider models, the Tarani and the original spear point and tanto were HT'd by Bos, the 420HC ones were not.
