On September 18, 2007, the product brand names and intellectual property of the company were acquired by Acme United Corporation in a bankruptcy action for $200,000 from Wikipedia

as far as I'm aware there are no plans of resumed production :(

Matt

http://www.camillusknives.com/ it does say though "new camillus coming soon" so who knows,
send them an e-mail

I think the brand is now owned by Acme United Corporation, which sounds like the company Wylie Coyote would buy knives from.;)

We just have to wait and see what happens as there's no Camillus content on the AUC web site. The chances are they will have a range of patterns manufactured in China. That means the quality could be excellent, rubbish or anything between. So it goes.

You might get some info if you email here:

Camillus.support@acmeunited.com

Please let us know what sort of response you get.

Cheers

David

Too slow. EK5Matt got there first.

If you want a genuine Camillus, there are lots for sale on ebay.

The slipjoints were good - and cheap towards the end as they cleared out loads of old stock.

I have a few stashed.

I have a couple of AO by Camillus. Roboheat or something silly like that. I like them well made and cheap from the U.S.:)

I have a camillus stockman. Made in China and called 'CAMCO' the quality is reasonably good and it comes with micarta and copper leaf scales.

Just had an email from acme
Hi Michael,

Acme United purchased the Camillus trademarks and patents only, we did not purchase any inventory and have no relation to the old products or warranties for their past business.

We are excited, however, about producing a new line of Camillus knives in 2009, which will have a lifetime warranty.

Please watch our website at www.acmeunited.com <http://www.acmeunited.com/>

Thank you for your interest.

Linda

does that mean they do not own the tools ?
and does it mean they could produce any old rubbish and stamp it with 'Camillus' ? :O

Yes.

Just like the way the 'Schrade' brand is being used now.

Camillus did indeed once make some nice slips. This old one belonged to my Grandfather. As you can see he modified it a bit.

Ebay and antique shops still have a good listing of the real ones. I picked up this WWII era Camillus Scout a couple of months ago.

I've an old stockman which has the number 69 stamped on a tang. I'm not sure if that's the year, the model number or what. Anyone know? I'll try to post some pics later when LOML gets home with the camera. Great knife.

I think that is the model number. We should be able to narrow down the age range based on the style of the tang stamp. Looking forward to your photos.

My local hardware shop is closing down and has a sale on.
While the shop closure is depressing the prices make up for it.
I went down today to pick up a battery powered dremmel.
The chap had a few and I wanted to get the feel of them so he attempted to open the packs.

It's sad to say that in a hardware shop he was using a steel rule to open shrink wrap packaging. I lent him my camillus with stainless blades and jigged bone scales that snipped through the plastic ties a treat. It seemed a daft thing to have to do. Totally inoffensive pocket knife that cuts nicely and weighs little.

He mustn't be seen to use knives around members of the public it seems.

Here's my lovely Camillus Stockman. Caught floating across the bay for $23 back when there was $2 to the £1. Ah, the good ol' days.

As usual some of the pics are a bit fuzzy, but I think they speak for themselves.

Thanks for looking.

I am guessing 1970's.....judging by the Delrin scales and Turkish clip

A piece of history, unfortunately.

I think your right about the pattern number, Steve, but I've been unable to find a listing or any real info on their pattern numbers.

I have one of the AO ti framelocks, not as smooth as a Kershaw and less than half the price of a sebbie.

Hi David. That looks like the three-line stamp used 1960-1976. I'll see if I can find anything re a pattern number list.

added: here is a link to lots of catalogues over the last 60 year. Many patterns are shown.

Great looking knife, what I would think when "Bowie" is mentioned.

Of course I have a cheapy Cold Steel "Long Hunter" which is probably closer to an actual bowie pattern, but sure what harm!

Camillus was owned by Becker, wasn't it (or possibly vice versa)? Maybe they'll go back into production by Ka-Bar?

I remember seeing they've re-released one Becker model so far.

practically everything in the old camillus factory was auctioned off. i've heard that most of camillus' tooling were bought by bear & son cutlery.
