View Full Version : Bristol meet-up anyone?

After a few attempts at getting a place sorted for a "proper" meet-up, but with no joy, i was wondering if anyone would be interested in meeting up for a pint and a chat about shiny sharp stuff.
I know there are a few of us around this area and if it was a bit in advance, maybe on a Sat or Sunday afternoon, makers collectors and all welcome, would there be any takers?
Any suggestions for a venue? I was thinking somewhere central-ish, for ease of parking but personally (as carrying anything more than edc would not be a good idea) I would not be to worried where.
It seems a shame to me we all talk on here a lot (some more than others, i know!) but i have only met a very few "local" guys.
Anyway, any thoughts?
Cheers'
Craig
nothing would make me happier than sitting around drinking and chatting about knives all night, where do i sign?:D

I think it might just be us two Rob....unlucky for you mate!! :)
If its just the two of us thats cool, but I'm sure more people would be up for it if it was more of a south west meet up maybe? just my thoughts on the matter. tell us what you think Craig

Rob

I think that a south west meet-up group would be the ultimate aim. This is just a starting point for the bigger picture. (actually a south west hammer-in would be great but little steps.....)
I think that at least young Puzo will be up for a beer or two as well and if anyone else in the area at the appointed time then all are welcome!
Maybe the next step is to set a time/place and see if we can drum up some people, not just from Bristol, from anywhere and who might just be about.
Any suggestions about an alternative meeting city/area/pub?
Maybe there just isn't enough people seeing this thread yet (not many views yet!) I'll give it couple of days and then see whats happening i think! Patience is a virtue and all that. :)
Cheers,
Craig
ps. maybe if i forge something for a raffle it might get some more interest. The next one is already gone but after that maybe.......
p.p.s. actually that might make things worse!!!

I'm afraid I'll have to bail on this if it's anytime soon as I'm not able to get out at present (I'm being locked away working :( ). But another time I expect so.
We tried to have a southwest meet up earlier this year and after problems with venues I offered my place. Great venue, great idea, great time.... Only two others turned up :mad66: Still WE had a good time :D

if you decide to meet up outside the city for future ones id join you guys. Bristols a royal pain getting in and out and arround.

not wrong ther JungleRe. That's why I do my very best to avoid it (if I can help it I even try different roads when having to go past Bristol as the M5 at that point is a PITA)

Wow, there are a few of us then!!! :D
jungle_re, i would be quite happy for the next time to be outside Bristol. I'm sure between us there are enough drivers to sort out lifts and such.Actually there is more chance of finding a "friendly" venue so we can do a bit of show and tell outside of the city. Much as I love living in Bristol I appreciate it is a pain to get around in (not helped with the new zombie mall in the centre:yuck: ).
Dave, it would be great if you could come up mate, I know it might not be for a while but if this becomes a regular thing then the more the merrier....
I will chat with Puzo and get back to you all as soon as i can!
Cheers,
Craig
A venue outside of bristol sounds like it might be better attended.
Any idea of dates?
regards,
Rob
Anyone else want to come?

good luck with your meet up a bit too far from Stoke on Trent for me
I'm new to the forum but thanks Rob for the link here. I live right in the centre of town so would be able to meet in the city or out side which ever suits the majority.
Cheers

The Old Lock and Weir Inn (http://www.lockandweir.com/)
Its a great pub, great food, and a stone throw away from the canal.
Hi all. New to the forum but Rob has linked me to the your hammer in thread. Would be good to meet up. I live in Yatton so am heavily biased to the country pubs nearby. Most of them don't give a damn about what you talk about or what knife you carry. Will keep check on the thread to see what's happening. Cheers chaps, Stu :)
Hello Chaps
I've been keeping an eye on this thread but i thought it had run aground. One of mates has turned up Stuey. So is there still any interest? I'm happy to leave the big smoke for a night.
Matt
I'm still up for it, i do think we need to make our plans a bit more solid:rolleyes:
How about i start the bidding with the second weekend in march?
Gives us about a month to sort it out, and I'm free that weekend:D
Let me know your thoughts on the venue, although Stuey might be able to help with that side of things better than me;)
regards,
Rob
Morning morning! If second weekend is 14th 15th I can't do it :( committed all weekend with the rescue team intake. Any further advances on a date? Stu :)

I'm on holiday the second and Third week in March, not sure how it will effect my weekends just yet but sign me up and i'll try and work the date in. The only definate i can do is the 28 -29th.
Sorry Craig i don't know how to cut and paste my name on to the list.
Matt
Morning chaps. Will check in with the events co ordinator and find out when I am allowed out :)Stu
During our regular meetup to talk about doing something, me and craig (ruitmexi) have moved a bit closer to the reality. SO anyone fancy a meet up?
Could be a bring and brag in a pub or a micro-hammerin at mine. I have a medium sized garden that could accommodate people and grinders and forges and stuff. get a tarp up in case of rain and thats fancy cooking. I'll cook up some food, brew some beer and jobs a goodun.
let me know what you think, views and ideas welcome.
Just need a date,
Hi Puzo
Stuey, rcs and myself meet up for a stroll in the woods when ever poss, but i like the idea of a micro-hammerin. Haven't sparked my forge up i got at jack jacks since i got back.
When and where were you thinking? I'm in Bedminster so can get pretty much anywhere fairly easy.
Matt
My house is in montpelier, easy to get to and i dont have any commitments, so when ever you want, doesnt look like rain this weekend. I dont have a anvil tho or any metal, so not sure how long they will take to arrange?

So whats a good day for everyone then? weekday? weekend?
Weekend is good for me.
cheers,
Rob
a weekends good, but so a weekday, i like weekends, but i also like weekdays, but which ones better, only one way to find out...
Been away for a while. Weekends are good for me but will have to check which ones are free, SWMBO is good at booking us to go places.
I'll try and post a few days and see if anyone else is free at the same time.
