I've been laking about a bit this last fortnight, and came up with this:

It can also do a neat trick of lying on its back, without rolling over:

I had made a smooth bolster out of a piece of brass bar, but decided on a hammer finish to match the blade a bit better:

Oh, and here are a three pictures showing my flat sander, and close-ups of the slice of moose antler being sanded nice and flat.

Pictures are too dark, I know :(

Poul Strande sandwich blade, brass bolster, black vulcanized fibre, moose antler, leather spacer and zebu horn.

Keith, have they turned off the power in your flat again?

Power wasn't off, though the very high winds yesterday made the lights dim quite a few times in the afternoon.

There! I've taken the photos again, with better lighting. And I polished the horn with beeswax.

Blade length is 77mm (3"), and overall length is 171mm (6.3/4"), for a weight of 120g (4.1/4oz).

I started a sheath last night, and finshed it today.

I was trying to go for a sort of "mini woodlore" look, but at that size, a firesteel holder wood have looked out of place.

how big is it?

The sheath? Just a bit shorter and a bit wider than the knife.

That is, 6" long, and 2.1/2" wide at the widest part (the "tab").

I really need to get a bit of decent leather. something that will stiffen and shrink at it dries. I wet-moulded this sheath, but the leather stayed supple and didn't shrink at all. It was in a bag of offcuts that my wife got me, along with some leatherworking tools, last year.

I hot-dipped it in beeswax; that has stiffened it a little, but it is still too flexible.

Oh, well. At least it was useful for the stitching practise.

Ilike the knife, very well ballanced, dont know about the sheath though, i think a scandi sheath would be better on this one :)
