View Full Version : Fake Benchmade 525?
Prophecy

Bought this Benchmade yesterday at a 'knife' shop. I think it's probably fake, and since I've just realised I didn't get a box/certificate, or couldn't find a tanto blade 525 online then I think I'm probably right.
But it's actually really good! Rock solid, strong, and believe it or not hair shaving sharp and perfectly grinded.
Took loads of photos today of it, but I can only upload a few as it's taking forever...

So what you think?! I asked the guy if they were genuine as he had a couple of different models. He said he was only standing in for his mate (this is true as I'd never seen that bloke before...) and he's not sure. He tried to ring the owner at his house but couldn't get through!

It's a fake. If you look closely you'll see the owner has used it!!!
No actually, although I don't own one, it looks rather good.

:D
That's just breadcrumbs in the close-up, and you can see some scratches to the exposed steel inside, where the pivot swings about.

They got the numbering slightly wrong, the Tanto should be 523.

Check the liners, they'll probably be magnetic, they were on the fake Stryker that i bought when they should have been Ti. which is'nt magnetic. The Stryker immediately set the alarm bells ringing when i unboxed it. Report it to Benchmade, they like to know who's selling knock off's. :)
Definite fake, the The 520 and 525 family are axis locks not liner.

Yes, the missing Axis Lock gives it away a bit!

The real benchmade also pivots on bronze washers to give a nice smooth action. No scratching. They probably broke a few rules using the trademark. Apart from that it's just similarly styled to the 525, without actually being anything like it.

I know you're being silly, but let's not be seen to be offering countrfeit production knives for sale, or offering goods for sale outside Portobello Road, please.
PS, How come all the decent quality fakes get sold overseas? All the ones sold in Hong Kong are awful.

Na, I wasn't serious. Sorry Wayne...
I wouldn't have bought if I had known it was fake, but I was quite amazed at the build and thought just maybe it's a really good deal!
Ahh...it'll do as a beater knife anyway for about the house. Or I could take it apart and stuff...maybe get rid of that lock...
