Just been reading around the subject... I use gum tragacanth on pretty much all my edges (er - OK, the leather, not the Kydex) to help burnish them and give a nice polished edge. Well, I like it!
Gum tragacanth is a plant gum extracted from Astragalus florulentus, a West Asian deciduous shrub.
Common uses for it include its use as an icing stiffener, particularly for making flowers... http://www.cakecraftshop.co.uk/shop/8/108/ for example.
It also makes quite a nice topcoat for leather.

We use it for making incense as well.
Just thought I'd add that

Leather - put a dab of the solution onto the edges and burnish with a bone folder (or any other smooth, hard thing - bit of wood, plastic, brass, whatever. No, not what you were thinking).
