Well i was as suprised as anything when I won the Loveless City knife in the EMCCU raffle.
Joes Comment was that I would like it and that it was a nice knife. So here are my thoughts on using it for the last week or so.

The Loveless CityKnife is made by 'Lone Wolf Knives' , on the reverse of the blade is a small logo with the word 'Italy' etched below it.
the blade claimed to be a Wharncliffe but I would say it's more of a modified spear point,
it has a steel bolster and green linen micarta scales held together with Torx screws.
The dimensions of the knife are as follows:
blade 2 1/2 inches
bolster 3/4 inch
scales 3 inches

overal length open 6 1/2 inches
overal length closed 3 1/2 inches

http://img147.exs.cx/img147/1184/cityhand8es.jpg

it isn't a very big or thick handle at only 8 mm wide and 16mm deep, but due to the length of the handle it fits in the hand comfortably.
It has a comfortable opening click, with very little play in the joint - which can be adjusted with the torx set pivot,
on closing the blade stops at 45o where there is a depression and then with a little more pressure then completes it's close.

As to it's capabilities it came out of the box shaving sharp and left a 1 inch wide by 2 inch long bare path on my forearm
with one clean sweep!

After using the knife all week at Uni for all manner of things including sharpening pencils,
cutting patterns in Frisk masking film, opening sandwich packs and cutting foil on Wine bottle necks;
I then decided to test how much of an edge it had left after this usage.

So first I rolled a piece of A4 into a tube giving 3 layers and taped the top and bottom
I then pressed the blade onto the surface at an angle

http://img138.exs.cx/img138/8595/papercut7am.jpg

the blade just slid straight through the paper - much to my suprise !

So remembering what someone asked on one of the other tests about cutting credit cards I tried it on a card

http://img143.exs.cx/img143/9828/creditcut5of.jpg

As can be seen it managed it - it did take a little pressure ; BUT neither of the cutting tests where done with a slicing action ,
they both were done with presssure alone on a single place on the blade.

in size comparison here it is with my Native and my Opinel No8 for comparison

So my overal impressions of the knife?
A nice little piece that i will quite happily carry around and use, it handles all the daily 'office' needs of a pocket knife without being
excessive or overly small.

Public opinion of it has been good, so much so that I have had trouble keeping it as it has received quite a few admiring glances
from Technicians and staff at Uni and a few people have actualy asked where they can get one from.

Looks nice Wayne you lucky bugger ;) I agree though, I wouldn't have called it a Wharncliffe. Nice review as well.

Good review Wayne :biggthump And quite timely, I was looking to get one in the not too distant future, and a positive review always helps :D

Does anyone know where you can buy one of these in the UK - I think I might be tempted?

Yep. There's one at the Holt's auction. I don't think you'll be the only bidder though!

I have just done that very thing.

I EDC a modified U2 but this looks a bit more 'gentlemanly' which is something I have been looking for.

There's a selection of them in the auction coming up

micarta ones come up for sale from time to time, £70 ish seemed to be what they were fetching but that was a while ago and it's less common to see them now so it may have gone up a bit.

It was this thread that set me off on a quest to find one which I did on Ebay in US of A , but something I've always been curious about is if the knife is so well thought of, who manufactured it (it was made in Italy) and what other knives have they been responsible for.

it's made by lone wolf, they make a lot aimed at the hunting market I think, I get the feeling that this wasn't too popular in the US for the exact reason folk on BB do like it

As far as I know Lone Wolf knives are based in Oregon USA , what manufacturer in Italy made this knife ??

This global economy makes my head ache.

Just saw one on a US website for 74USD - don't know if they actually have it in stock though

Love the acronymic name of the steel LV-03 (LOV3 ) - I think it is a commissioned version of 12C27 - seem to remember that story from somewhere

wow! it's been a long time since i wrote that :D

In fact I'd forgotten I 'd done it ! the funny thing is that I almost gave my 'city' away at Yule, but kept it and bought my friend a rough rider trapper instead - so glad I did now :)

All the lone wolf loveless style knives are (where) made by Fantoni.
It's not longer in the Lone Wolf catalogue.

They also come in different handle materials.

I believe it is 19C27 at 61 HRC

But you're right of the special naming from Lone Wolf

By the way Fantoni did a very nice job on all loveless models

They were a nice knife . I ended up selling mine on . I would rather either have something with a lock ( not a legal problem here ) of something with other capabilities like a Vic. Farmer or Soldier . A fine slippy makes about the least efficient phillips drive you ever owned , by way of contrast the can opener on the Vic. soldier works not too bad !
