I was in B&Q today buying some brass tubing to try making mosaic pin's and i spotted a little drill press for £19.79 (reduced from £39.00).
Now for twenty quid you cant expect much but i thought i'd try one.
I have a large 12 speed drilll press in my workshop ,but my workshop is not at my home and my "knife time" is usually in the evenings when i don't feel like going back into work so i this is going in the shed and it's only going to get light work (drilling scale material) so it should be fine.

Only a 250W motor
5 speed with a 1/2" chuck.

And it has a little laser for lining up your work that was actually spot on out of the box.

About 10 mins's put's it together and for the money it's seems fine.

I've been looking at those as well, B & Q have had some real bargains on tools recently. Let us know how you get on.

hhmm, that looks interesting! It's a pity I got a bench drill as a chrissie pressie , I have a Clarks 1/3 rd horsepower 5 speed, from machine mart it was £34.95 but isn't as pretty as yours! works well though! I will be interested to see how yours performs.

I will get you one but the carriage from Belfast might make it ridiculous.
They are small but still very heavy.
Bound to be someone closer that will grab one for you.
Let me know if i can help.

Great little tool, I paid a bit more than 19 quid though.

The laser is good for quicky getting your work into an approximation of the right place, but dont rely on it for actual drilling. Turn the lase4r off and line it it up the traditional way (take the drill bit down to your mark on the work), it's far more accurate.

Or line it up with a wiggler!

My general workhorse is one of the larger Clarke floor-standing presses. Er, as covered in that thread...

No problems at all. It's a nice little drill - and lets face it, at £19, it's damned near disposable!

For less than £20 i think it's great but i don't know that i would want to be drilling a lot of metal with it.
It's pretty light duty and only a small motor.
I got mine for fine work like drilling scale material and leather.
Used it tonight drilling some rec. ivory and it was fine.
