View Full Version : budget Molle gear
I know about Maxpedition bags and of course Kifaru kit but that ranges from expensive to insane with the current exchange rate.
I've seen copies of the MaxP proteus and they seem good for the money. Are there any cheap options for a backpack?
A pannel loader with internal molle may be handy.

if you want cheap Andy there is a guy who sell on ebay from australia who ive had a few things from in the past. Its cheap and not bad quality; marketed as airsoft stuff but the fake camelback i got was decent quality.
Do a search for 'molle' on the bay

There was someone on ebay that sold similar to MaxP stuff, and they were dirt cheap. I can't find them atm as I've lost all my bookmarks but let me have a mooch in my emails in case I can find something.

Definitely cheap, no idea on quality.

I've had stuff from that ebay chap in Oz also, no complaints at all.
An alternative source of Maxped "style" stuff is ASMC (http://www.asmc.de/)in Germany, although not so cheap now that the Pound is weak against the Euro.

E-hobby Asia are brilliant. used them before, bought some sunglasses (Guarder C4's, for what its worth, very nice!) cheaper than buying in the UK and arrived quicker, too.
Really tempted by a new backpack/satchel. I like the look of the County Comm XL bail out bag but as they dont answer emails from brits they can go whistle.
Anybody got a 'go bag'? (county comm call it a satcom bag). would like to know what they're like in day to day use.
Tink.
depends how ethical you are i suppose
ebaybanned for instance sells copies of alot of stuff
but for a decent go bag have a look at uktactical.com
I don't expect it to get used a huge amount. I was thinking about a bag that I could set up as a large FAK with extra gear.
I currently have a mini responder bag (http://www.stjohnsupplies.co.uk/products/default.asp?productId=F20130) but find that it doesn't sit well on my back, the straps rub on my neck and while it can hold more basic first aid stuff then you need it can't hold the paperwork or any personal kit. It also can't hold bulky kit like a AED or vomit bowls
The other medical bags are
small responder bag (http://www.stjohnsupplies.co.uk/products/default.asp?productId=F20131) and the backpack (http://www.stjohnsupplies.co.uk/products/default.asp?productId=F20090)
I was hoping to find a bag wil internal molle and with aid of velcro use internal pouches from the backpack (very cheap) and possibly add an external pocket for a AED or my own stuff.
I just wish someone made a smaller bag on a similar basis to the Marauder (http://www.kifaru.net/MGmaraud.htm)
I've got a Norrona backpack that's got elastic inside which works like molle.
Its the bottom one on this page. http://www.tamarackoutdoors.co.uk/dispprod.pl?filtera=Outdoor%20Clothing&filterb=Norrona&filterc=Rucksacks

Hmmm
I don't think elastic would work though.
This is what I currently have
The current bag has two small and one large section per side
section 1
gloves, kidney bowl
section 2
gauze pads, water pods
section 3 (large)
containing plasters, cleaning wipes and small wound dressings
selection of dressings and burns kit
section 4
triangular bandages, range of tape
section 5
small bio harzard kit, more water
section 6
ice packs, support bandages, sealed bottle of drinking water
The front pocket has two pouches in it
belt kit has a
couple of pairs of gloves
scissors
tough cuts
penlight
pen
head injury advice cards
the other one has
paracetamol
space blankets
clinical waste bags
paper bag
normal bin bag
The pocket also has a
single vomit/urine bag
hand wash
resus pocket mask
For some larger outside events I'd reduce the amount of sprts injury kit and have a proper blanket but it was a tight fit. It did get used a lot though
The main section can fit a A4 clip board for the patient report forms (A3)
I'll also often transport
high vis
warm clothing
phone
multitool
drink
lunch
book
and possibly a AED
a fair bit of kit
anyone got one of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USMC-Army-Tactical-3-Day-Molle-Assault-Backpack-Bag-BK_W0QQitemZ110337039145QQihZ001QQcategoryZ52503QQ tcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262)?
There's what seems to be a copy of the MaxP Falcon II for around £20 but it may be a bit small and maybe not so good for fitting extra's too.
its not directly a map copy rather a copy of the generic 3day assault pack - havn't seen one in the flesh but its unlikley to have the Max p extras
the original 3 day is basically a shell
but for £20 its worth a shop i guess

Any one of you that has a track on some simple organisers ?? I use drybags for bigger stuff, FAK in its own bag etcetera, but would like to get some different styled and sized pouch thingys, for different dodahs..
what size and sorts of dodahs?
I currently have
MaxP proteus bumbag
MaxP Jumbo
MaxP M2 waist pouch
MaxP double sheath
MaxP single sheath
MaxP mini rolypoly
and I recently got a cheap medical pouch
With modern small torches the double sheath doesn't get used much but the sheaths are handy. The M2 pouch always seemed either too big or too small, a phone, GPS, multitool etc would fit in the front pocket or the inner sections but I couldn't really find anything useful that fitted in other then one or two the above items. It's now living as a battery bag for my bike lights.
The jumbo is a great bag for carrying stuff for short walks though the most I've ever attach to it using the molle sections is the phone or a single sheath and if you put a liter of water in the back pocket without much weight in the main bit it doesn't sit right, 1/5 liter seems fine though. I wouldn't want anything bigger then the jumbo though as all the weight is on one shoulder and at the side it's not as good as a small rucksack
The bumbag is useful for bits and bobs while cycling but is easy to overload and then it bounces round when you move.
I don't think much of the cheap medical pouch I got. It's design just isn't a patch on my St John multi pouch

I forgot to get the core info,:ashamed01 its for organising dodahs inside bergens. Looking for spare batteries - the yellow pouch. Going for the spices ?? blue pouch etcetera.
Something to organise all the small stuff...:) if you get my drift..
